Chapter 136
Everyone looked genuinely surprised as they’d all assumed Alicia was going to get what she
wanted.
“So, it wasn’t the pink diamond after all? Alicia’s been talking about it for months in our circle. She’s been hinting so hard that she wanted a pure pink diamond ring. I thought Mr. Ford would give it to her…”
“Yeah, same…”
Another person chimed in, “Mr. Ford is so attentive to Alicia. How could he not know what she really wanted? She practically spelled it out. Didn’t he have anyone keeping tabs on her life?”
They kept going, word after word, as if they had completely forgotten that I was Jonathan’s actual wife. To them, it was only natural that he should be paying attention to Alicia’s private desires, and not doing so was the shocking part.
I shook my head.
Just when everyone assumed the gift–giving segment was over, a staff member quietly
interrupted the room. “Excuse me, there’s still one more gift…”
Instinctively, I looked over and saw the staff member take out the pink diamond ring I had handed
him earlier and place it right in the center of the display table. The camera immediately zoomed in, and the image of the pink diamond filled the giant screen.
“This is…” The staff member paused when he saw the name on the tag. He did a double–take,
making sure he read it right, before continuing, “This gift was given by Ms. Elise.”
As soon as the words left his mouth, the entire room fell silent. I could literally hear everyone
breathing.
Jonathan’s expression darkened instantly. His eyes locked onto the tray holding the diamond, cold as ice. The veins on the back of his hand started to pop, and I could see the storm of rage and frost swirling behind his gaze.
“Why is he reacting so strongly?” I murmured, tugging at the corner of my lips.
