Jonathan's voice was deep. "What happened to Alicia?"
Hugh sighed. "It was still about Ms. Guzman. Ms. Guzman went at Alicia twice and scratched up her face. She even had to get stitches on her forehead.
"When the doctor took out her stitches today, he said there might be a scar. Ms. Alicia had mentally prepared for it, but she is still a young lady. Seeing that wound in the mirror broke her down completely."
Jonathan interrupted Hugh, "Got it."
He then glanced at me. "Can you eat on your own?"
I took the bowl from his hand with a blank face. "I can eat on my own just fine. Go ahead."
I didn't make a fuss and just quietly ate my oatmeal.
Jonathan got up and started to leave, but stopped in his tracks and glanced back at me. His eyes were packed with emotions, but it was all tangled and unclear.
But I had no interest in whatever was going through his head. I just kept my head down and focused on my oatmeal. The only thing I heard after that was a low, tired sigh.
By the time I looked up again, he was already gone. I was the only one left in the room.
…
Early the next morning, I headed to the wine cellar and grabbed a few nice bottles. I wasn't going there to apologize to Frederick, but bringing a few bottles of wine he liked would at least make him easier to talk to.
Jonathan didn't go back on his word. No one tried to stop me when I left.
Bob was waiting by the gate in the car. When I stepped outside, he got out of the car and opened the door for me. "Where are you going, Ms. Sawyer? Just say the word."
I furrowed my brows and looked at him. "Did Jonathan send you?"
Bob lowered his gaze. "Yes. You've still not fully recovered. Please take care of yourself first."
I didn't say a word and got straight into the car. Then, I instructed, "Let's head to La Doghouse."
Bob's expression changed as he subconsciously glanced at me. Everyone knew the bar belonged to Frederick, and Bob clearly wasn't sure about it. "I need to check with Mr. Ford first."
