Suddenly, I felt that Kevin was a much scarier person than Julian.
"We should call the police if it gets too bad. Isn't this stalking? It's terrifying," Lila said, her face paling slightly.
I calmed myself down and thought for a moment. Then, I rejected her idea, saying, "Forget it. With what he's done, he'd just be detained for half a month at most."
"Then what should we do?" Lila was so anxious that she was on the verge of tears.
I gritted my teeth and said, "Since he's working in the shadows while I'm out in the open, I've got no choice but to face him head-on. If I'm going to go down, I might as well go down fighting. Rather than just waiting passively for him to do something, it's better to try and seize the initiative."
…
The next morning, the first customer to walk into the coffee shop was the person I wanted to see the least.
Kevin came in with some breakfast in hand. He smiled as he approached me. "Serena, I'm sorry for what happened yesterday. I came today to apologize."
I had a rag in hand, and I didn't even look up as I said, "First of all, watch your tone when you speak to me. Secondly, I don't accept your apology."
Kevin anxiously stepped closer. "Serena, I mean it. I… I was misled by someone. That's all."
I responded, "You might've had your difficulties, but I'm the one who got hurt. Surely, you have no reason to force me to forgive you?"
I was discreetly observing his reactions while I talked to him.
A flicker of surprise flashed in his eyes when I refused him. It was quickly followed by a look of determination as he stepped forward again. "Serena, we're still coworkers. I promise I won't do anything like this again."
"I guess I'll have to treat you as an ordinary coworker. But before that, you need to answer a question for me," I said as I put down the rag.
After that, I ignored Kevin as I went to serve the other customers. I really didn't want to talk to anyone else today. I just wanted to finish work and go back to the dormitory as soon as possible. After all, Lila was probably starving in the dormitory, waiting for me.
The moment I pushed open the dormitory door, I was greeted by the familiar atmosphere. It gave me a sense of security, and I found my nerves settling down.
"I'm back."
"Darling, you're finally back!" Lila popped out of bed and eagerly walked over. She grabbed the food from my hands and turned around right away.
"And here I was, thinking that you were so enthusiastic because you were welcoming me back." I rolled my eyes and hung up my bag.
"Isn't finishing all the delicious food you brought back the best way to welcome you?" she replied as she savored the food blissfully. "So, did Kevin turn up at work today?"
