"Seriously, who does Alex think he is? The most powerful man in the world? Does he take everyone else for fools?"
After listening to my complaints about Alex, Lila finally asked, "So, what are you planning to do now?"
The resentment in my heart instantly faded as I racked my brain for a solution.
"How about… just having an open and honest talk with him?" She suggested cautiously.
"No way," I rejected the idea with a cold expression. "Lila, if Alex wants to keep things from me, I'll keep things from him too. Isn't he playing games with me? Well, I'll make him taste what it's like to be on the receiving end."
"Alright. Serena, you're amazing." She clapped her hands. "I support you, but you have to be careful."
"Don't worry." I rolled my eyes. "Wanna bet that Oliver will still be following me when I step out tomorrow?"
"No." Lila chuckled mischievously. "But Serena, don't you think Mr. Hastings is actually kind of… hot?"
"He's a typical male chauvinist." I put down my phone. "I'm going to sleep."
…
The following day, just as I opened my door to head out, the door to the room next to mine swung open.
"Oliver?" I feigned surprise. "Why did you move into this room? Wasn't yours on the second floor?"
"Uh…" Oliver scratched his head. "The colleagues from the R&D department arrived, and they needed to be on the same floor as Mr. Hastings for convenience."
I nodded. "Are you following me again today?"
"Ah… I'm free, so I figured I'd join you."
I turned to glance at Oliver, but he was doing his best to act as if nothing was out of the ordinary—though his head was practically buried in the steering wheel.
With no other choice, I braced myself and entered the car.
"Are you and Lucas close?" Alex suddenly asked.
"Not really." I thought for a moment. "I've helped him before, and he has helped me. I'd say we're friends."
"Like you and Lila?" He turned to look at me.
I nodded.
After that, we did not talk for the rest of the ride.
