November 8th.
Today was Claudia's eighteenth birthday, as well as York's twenty-second.
It was after ten at night.
After helping the Watkins family see off the last of their guests, York was preparing to leave.
"York!"
Claudia, dressed in a little white cocktail dress with a light jacket thrown over it, came out to the garden to find him.
York naturally reached out and adjusted the jacket on her shoulders.
"It's cold out here. Get back inside."
Claudia moved closer to him, her delicate features tinged with a shy blush.
She glanced around to make sure no one was watching, then leaned in close to him.
"York, I want to be your girlfriend!"
York hadn't expected her to say something so bold and his expression immediately turned serious.
"You've been stuck on the same basic physics problems for two years and still can't pass a quiz. With your brainpower, aren't you afraid I'd sell you and you wouldn't even know it?"
Claudia swayed his arm, pleading, "It's your fault for being so handsome! All my brainpower is dedicated to liking you, what am I supposed to do?"
Their eyes met.
Claudia's expression was innocent, her gaze practically sparkling with pink hearts.
York's breathing hitched, and for a moment, he was at a loss for how to handle her.
Seeing him hesitate, Claudia suddenly stood on her tiptoes to sneak in for a kiss.
Before her lips could even touch his jaw, York easily stopped her.
He let her go, his eyes giving her a warning look.
"Get inside before you freeze."
York took a step, then turned back to find Claudia following him. He stopped, frowning.
Claudia grabbed his arm again, her voice soft and wheedling.
"York, it's my birthday. I want to go on the swing."
York let her sway his arm.
"York, my birthday present to you is me!"
With that, her hands started exploring his abs.
York's heart was pounding so hard he felt it might leap out of his chest.
"..."
"What is... what is this?"
"Ahem!"
Hearing the noise behind them, Claudia turned around.
Her parents were pointing at them, their eyes wide, so shocked they were speechless.
Claudia looked at the frozen-in-place York, covered her face, and ran back into the house.
When York finally snapped out of it, he stood there, facing Claudia's parents, blushing all the way to the roots of his hair.
Felix finally broke the awkward silence.
"Ah, York... Claudia has always been a handful. Don't take her antics to heart."
