No Divorce? The Billionaire's Love Chase! novel Chapter 731

York didn't know how he made it home.

In the bedroom, he carefully opened the suitcase and took out the two gifts. It had been a long time since he’d first given them to Claudia, and she had never even opened them.

One by one, York unwrapped the gifts. A pink diamond ring, a diamond necklace, and the bank card Claudia had insisted on giving him that night.

And finally, the cross she had given him.

An image of Claudia running toward Gideon flashed in his mind, overlapping with a memory. Once, Claudia had run to him countless times, throwing herself into his arms.

But now, all he could do was watch as another man held her, another man kissed her.

York, who had been sitting on the edge of the bed, slowly slid to his knees on the floor, so full of regret he wanted to slam his head against the wall.

The pent-up emotions finally erupted. A tortured sound, like the low growl of a cornered beast, escaped his throat.

...

A few days later.

Claudia invited her circle of friends to dinner to introduce Gideon to everyone.

Almost everyone showed up. The only one missing was York.

At one point, a friend casually asked, “Hey, how come York isn’t here tonight?”

Darleen shot a somber look at Peter.

Peter quickly covered for him. “York has a business trip tomorrow. He’s swamped and couldn’t get away.”

Everyone understood the real reason but said nothing.

Claudia then announced that she and Gideon were getting engaged next week, which was met with a chorus of excited cheers.

With Peter and Gideon there, the atmosphere remained lively enough.

After dinner, Gideon walked Claudia to the parking lot.

Just as they reached her car, Claudia suddenly stopped.

Gideon asked with concern, “What’s wrong? Did you twist your ankle?”

Claudia was embarrassed but had no choice but to say it. “Um, I just got my period.”

True love is timid.

It’s the fear of not doing enough, the fear of loss.

It’s what Gideon did—constantly clarifying his intentions, making his partner feel loved and secure. It’s proactively creating distance from other women, eliminating any potential for emotional complications before they could even start.

The deeper the love, the clumsier it seemed.

Not like him.

During his three-year marriage to Claudia, he had been arrogant, confident he could control everything. He had squandered her love, utterly convinced she would never leave him.

York leaned back slowly, closing his eyes in agony.

He didn't get out of the car. He didn't let Claudia know he was there.

He had made his choice in blissful ignorance, and now he had to bear the consequences with his eyes wide open.

This was the price he had to pay.

York hid in his car, waiting until Gideon returned from the supermarket with the pads and took Claudia to the restroom, before he finally drove away.
