No Divorce? The Billionaire's Love Chase! novel Chapter 718

He shouldn't have been so impulsive.

Just the fact that Claudia had allowed him into her apartment and let him have dinner with her family was already a tremendous blessing for him.

Her parting words were just polite courtesy. Even if there was a sliver of genuine feeling behind them, it had nothing to do with love.

He shouldn’t have gotten greedy and wished for more.

Late that night, at Blue Bay.

Peter was leaning against the front door of York’s apartment, watching him step out of the elevator.

They went inside.

York took off his jacket and sank onto the sofa, exhausted. “What are you waiting for me for at this hour?”

Peter stared at him. “You went to the Watkins family’s place tonight?”

York glanced at him. “If you’re so bored, why don’t you just marry Darleen and start having kids.”

Peter sat down next to him. “Me having kids is just a matter of time. Whether you’ll ever have kids of your own, well, that’s another story.”

York shoved him away in mock disgust and moved to sit on the opposite sofa.

Peter wasn’t offended. “The deaths of Ann and her mother, the James family’s complete departure from Capital City, the fall of the Quinn family, and the Windsor family quietly letting things go… Everything went according to your plan. You were the one pulling the strings behind it all, weren’t you?”

York poured two glasses of wine and handed one to Peter. “You’re overthinking it.”

He neither confirmed nor denied it, and Peter didn’t press the matter.

Peter put his glass down. “Want me to set something up? Create some opportunities for you and Claudia?”

The scene was rapidly spiraling out of control, creating a terrible disturbance. In a fit of rage, the deceased woman’s husband pulled a hatchet from his coat and, with bloodshot eyes, swung it at a young nurse from the delivery room.

The nurse screamed in terror as the crowd scattered like startled birds.

Seeing the nurse was about to be struck, Claudia gathered her courage and slammed her body into the man with the hatchet. He stumbled sideways, and the nurse narrowly escaped.

“Whatever you want, just tell us,” Claudia said, trying to calm him. “But hurting people is against the law. Put the knife down!”

But the man didn't listen. He raised the hatchet and swung it at Claudia. “Your incompetence killed my wife! I’ll make you pay with your lives!”

Claudia saw the blade arcing down toward her. She tried to back away, but the dense crowd of onlookers blocked her path.

In despair, Claudia squeezed her eyes shut, bracing for the impact.

The pain she expected never came. Instead, she was suddenly pulled into a warm embrace. A muffled grunt was followed by a chorus of screams from the crowd, and Claudia’s eyes flew open.
