Just then, Gideon, supported by Jackie, got out of a car.
Seeing the blood on her daughter's neck, her face went white with terror. “Fidelia, my daughter, do you remember what your Benton taught you last week?”
Fidelia sobbed, looking at Benton.
Benton coached her, “Don’t be scared, Fidelia. I showed you how to do it several times until you got it right, remember?”
Fidelia suddenly let out a loud wail and then, in a flash, executed a swift kick.
Though she didn’t have much strength, it caught Ann off guard, forcing her back a step.
York, who was closest, lunged forward in an instant and swept the weeping Fidelia into his arms.
“York!”
Ann reacted, raising her dagger to stab at York.
Bang!
A gunshot rang out, and Ann was hit squarely in the heart.
With a clatter, the dagger fell from her hand, and her body crumpled to the ground.
As everyone crowded around, York handed Fidelia over to the Harvest family.
Ann’s dazed eyes unfocused, her pupils slowly dilating.
Why?
All she wanted was a better life. What was so wrong with that?
Why did no one approve of her? Why did everyone have to push her?
She had been so close to marrying York, but the old fools in the Ferguson family had looked down on her.
She had been so close to marrying into the Delaney family, but that bastard Lamont not only rejected her but also the son she bore him.
She had been so close to becoming the true heiress of the Harvest family, with endless wealth and luxury, but York had engineered a plot that ruined everything!
The next morning, in the CEO’s office at Ferguson Group.
Mark knocked and entered.
“Mr. Ferguson, after Laurel’s death, Fiona and Backus put the house on the market and took their kid to live with relatives in Linshire City.”
“An hour ago, Selene died in the hospital. No family has come forward to claim her body.”
Mark wiped a bead of cold sweat from his forehead and continued, “But before Selene escaped from the Quinn family, she put a massive dose of rat poison in their slow cooker. Mr. Quinn and the Quinn patriarch were both poisoned at breakfast. Mr. Quinn’s dose was fatal.”
He thought to himself, *Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.*
York showed little reaction to the news.
Hamlin had abandoned his wife and daughter to support Ann and Selene. His death was no great loss.
Now, with Ann's menace finally eliminated, he no longer had to worry about anyone causing trouble for Claudia.
