She dropped to one knee in front of him again. "York, your grandfather forced me to leave the country and marry someone else just to break us up. All these years, I've been alone, abused, beaten, and forced to have a child. Every day has been a living hell. If I really had that much money, do you think I would have ended up in this state?"
When York still said nothing, Ann pressed on. "Even after being beaten like this, I never thought of coming back to disrupt your life or drag you down again. I only came back because I developed severe depression. I had no choice but to escape and save my own life!"
Her crying grew more pathetic. "If I die, my child will be an orphan. I'm a mother, York! I was truly at the end of my rope. That's the only reason I came back to you for help."
York’s gaze remained downcast, his face showing no flicker of emotion. He had already heard these lies once before in his past life.
He slowly let out a few words. "How do you want me to save you?"
Seeing that York had finally responded, Ann quickly put her coat back on. She tentatively moved closer, trying once again to sit beside him, but a look from York was all it took for Mark to intercept her.
Ann had no choice but to stand before him, her voice thick with grievance. "York, when my family found out I came back with my child, they disowned us. They refuse to let us stay with them. They know I'm in this situation because of you, so they just yell at me and hit me. I had nowhere else to turn, so I came to you for help."
Tears streamed down her face. "You know I'm not a materialistic woman, York. I'd be content with just a place to stay so I can get my health back."
"I'm busy," York said flatly. "List all your requests at once, so I know what to do next."
Ann was overcome with joyful tears. She knew it! York hadn't gotten over her. With just a little manipulation, he would be hers again.
