That evening, York returned to Capital City.
The moment he stepped off the plane, his parents took him back to the Ferguson Mansion.
Old Mr. Ferguson ordered him to hand off his work to someone else as soon as possible and focus on recuperating abroad, but York refused outright.
He told his family with a straight face that he was fine and that they shouldn't worry.
Darleen couldn't hold back any longer. "York, just listen to Grandpa."
York shot his sister a warning glance.
"It's a stomach condition," he said. "It'll take time to heal. Don't worry about me. I know my own body."
He didn't mention a word about his angina or severe insomnia.
Wendy, looking haggard, pointed at York. "If it comes to it, your father will go back to the company. You have to go to the hospital and get treatment."
"York, have you ever thought about what would happen to this family if something happened to you?" Wendy pressed. "How would we go on?"
York fell silent for a moment.
"Mom, you really don't need to worry," he said. "If you're still not convinced, you can have Darleen supervise me. I'll eat my meals and take my medicine on time, and go for regular check-ups. That should be enough, right?"
Old Mr. Ferguson slammed his cane on the floor, the sound echoing with a dull thud.
The patriarch said, "Listen to me, York. If anything happens to you, I will make the entire Watkins family pay with their lives!"
"Grandpa!" Darleen's eyes widened in disbelief. "Have you lost your mind? What does this have to do with the Watkins family!"
Wendy could no longer contain herself. She pointed at the patriarch and Sewell. "York is in this state all thanks to you! And even now, you show no remorse. Do you really want to see him dead?"
York's face darkened.
"Grandpa," he said, his voice cold and deliberate, "you will regret this."
A sharp, drilling pain shot through his chest, and he turned and hurried toward the bathroom.
After York left, Old Mr. Ferguson said, "If I don't push him like this, will he ever listen?"
