Claudia locked the bathroom door.

Outside, York started a timer on his phone.

Half an hour later, Claudia had showered, changed into pajamas, and dried her hair. She then sat quietly on the toilet, waiting for York to break in.

"Claudia?"

York's knock sounded from outside the door. Claudia picked at her nails, not answering him.

"Claudia, are you done?"

York's worried voice called out again, but it was as if she couldn't hear him.

Soon, the knocking turned into the sound of someone ramming the door. Claudia remained unfazed.

The bathroom door burst open.

Claudia calmly stood up.

Her attitude infuriated York. "I was calling you out there. Why didn't you answer?"

Claudia's expression was placid as she scanned him up and down before walking out.

Her coldness left York feeling helpless, lost, and powerless.

He turned and wrapped his arms around her tightly from behind.

When he spoke again, his voice was gentle.

"I'm sorry, Claudia," he said. "I was just so worried about you. I didn't mean to raise my voice."

Claudia broke free from his hold and turned to face him.

She looked into his eyes and said flatly, "York, you're such a hypocrite."

With that, she walked out of the bathroom.

York staggered, barely managing to steady himself by holding onto the doorframe.

He stared blankly toward the bedroom, then walked weakly to the toilet and sat where Claudia had just been.

He fumbled for a cigarette and lighter from his pocket. The lighter clicked several times, but his shaking hands couldn't manage to light the cigarette.
