So, her vulnerability, her weakness—none of it had been for him. He had stepped forward, ready to be her shield, but she had walked straight into the arms of others.
A sharp pain twisted in York’s chest, and his vision momentarily went black. Peter reacted instantly, grabbing his arm to steady him.
Though he didn't understand the full situation, Gideon stepped forward. “President Quinn, I’m sure there’s been a misunderstanding. Dr. Watkins is my guest. If there’s an issue, you can direct it to me.”
Shelly, now being helped to her feet, approached them weakly. “Mr. Gideon, I’ve heard a little about the history between Dr. Watkins and my niece, Ann, but personally, I bear Dr. Watkins no ill will at all.”
She continued, “I just had no idea she hated the James family so much that she wouldn’t even spare a pregnant woman. If I hadn’t reacted quickly enough to protect my stomach, my child might be gone!”
Celia added, “Mr. Gideon, there were dozens of us who saw it with our own eyes, and you’ve seen the video. Dr. Watkins despises the James family, and she attacked a pregnant Mrs. Quinn. Don't you think we should call the police?”
Peter pointed a finger at Celia. “Speaking of which, what does any of this have to do with an illegitimate daughter like you?”
Celia’s face flushed red with humiliation, and she finally fell silent.
The Quinn patriarch spoke, his voice filled with rage. “Mr. Gideon, even if she is your guest, she hurt my wife. You owe me an explanation!”
York pushed Peter’s hand away and stepped into the center of the confrontation. He glanced at Claudia, then turned to Shelly. “Mrs. Quinn, Ann committed murder. Prison is the lightest punishment she deserves.”
