After a moment of flustered panic, Claudia said to Cyrus, "I'll buy you a new pair of pants another day."
Cyrus poked the hole in his trousers with a finger. "You weren't like this before."
Claudia put down her acupuncture kit.
"Uncle Cyrus," she said, "you're York's elder, after all. He's acting like such a jerk, and you're not going to do anything about it?"
Cyrus raised an eyebrow.
When she called him 'Uncle Cyrus,' it always meant she wanted something.
"York brought me back to his house," Claudia explained. "I'm afraid he'll do something extreme, like murder me, dismember me, and then kill my entire family. I didn't dare fight him head-on. You're his uncle. Can't you do something to control him?"
Cyrus asked, "Are you truly set on this divorce?"
Claudia placed a hand over her heart. "I dream about it."
Cyrus lowered his gaze, his fingers tracing the cross in his hand. "Pay attention when you're inserting the needles later. Don't get distracted and poke a hole in my head."
Claudia was speechless.
It was after seven in the evening by the time Claudia left Grant Manor.
Suddenly, a pair of high beams flashed in her eyes, forcing her to brake hard.
"Mrs. Ferguson, the Old Master requests your presence at Ferguson Mansion."
Claudia was taken to Ferguson Mansion.
She had expected another confrontation, but to her surprise, the old man's attitude had completely changed. He was much kinder to her.
After a quick check to make sure she wasn't hurt, York said, "Go wait for me in the car."
Claudia glanced at him and turned to leave.
After she was gone, Sewell said angrily, "York, I'm warning you, Hugh has never lost a case. And it's clear that woman is determined to leave you. You need to make a plan and take control of the situation."
"And as for that woman Ann," Sewell added, "if you don't deal with her soon, don't blame your grandfather and me for not showing you any courtesy!"
York remained resolute. "Dad, I'll say it again: I will handle my own affairs."
York got into the car and glanced at Claudia in the passenger seat, who was scrolling through her phone.
He hesitated for a moment, then started the car.
