No Divorce? The Billionaire's Love Chase! novel Chapter 323

As York emerged from the hospital, Ann rushed to his side.

She carefully studied his grim expression before asking timidly, "York, is your wife angry?"

York stopped walking. His face was a cold mask. "Ann, I can help you for a while, but not forever. If Ethan is capable of bullying a classmate at his age, he'll be capable of committing crimes when he's older. You need to do a better job raising him."

Ann immediately jumped to her son's defense. "Don't be so dramatic, York. He's six years old, what does he know? Besides, it was his first day at a new school. The other kids were ignoring him, and he acted out because he was upset."

Seeing York's expression darken dangerously, she quickly added, "I know this has been a lot of trouble for you. I'll have a serious talk with him tonight, I promise. It won't happen again."But York was agitated, his mind a chaotic mess. Without waiting for her to finish, he strode away.

He didn't go to the office. He went straight home.

That evening, Claudia returned to pack her suitcase. Wilma was in the kitchen preparing dinner while York stood on the living room balcony, on the phone.

After packing a small bag, Claudia headed for the door, but York blocked her path. His eyes were fixed on her, searching her expression. "I had Wilma make dinner," he said, his voice low and pleading. "Stay and eat. I'll drive you to the airport afterward."

Claudia shot him a single, dismissive glance and pushed past his arm. "You should use the time to think about our divorce."

With that, she walked out without a backward glance.

York stared after her resolute figure, a sudden, inexplicable panic rising in his chest.

"I heard Ann talking to Celia at the bar tonight," Peter said.

York took a long, agitated drag from his cigarette. "Ethan beat up a classmate on his first day at the prep school," he said, his voice weary. "Ann confronted the other parent and made things worse. Mark couldn't handle it, so I had to step in."

Peter sighed. "I know, I know. Ann James and her son would be lost without you. No good deed goes unpunished, right? Just do yourself a favor, finalize the divorce and go live with them."

York's expression soured. "Hugh is an international lawyer. He was pressuring the school to expel Ethan. In the hospital room, he mistook Ann for my wife. I just went along with it so he'd agree to settle privately, out of respect for the Ferguson family name."

"Resolving the situation was only part of it," Peter countered. "What you really cared about was Ann's reputation and that of her son. You were afraid your ready-made son would be called illegitimate and looked down on at school. Am I wrong?"
