"Yesterday at school," Hugh continued, "Hawley was hit in the head by a classmate and verbally bullied. He's been in this state ever since. At 1:05 last night, doctors gave him a small dose of medication, but he only slept for about forty minutes before waking up. He's been like this ever since."

Claudia's eyes flickered with hesitation. Last night, York had mentioned that his and Ann's son had hurt someone at school and the other family wasn't letting it go. Could it be this father and son?

She reached out to gently touch Hawley's face, but the child only cried harder.

Claudia studied the little boy for a moment, then took off her white coat and tried again to get closer.

She knelt beside him, speaking his name softly. "Hawley, would you let me hold you?"

Hawley's tear-filled eyes looked at the woman before him, and his crying slowly subsided. He stared at Claudia for a good thirty seconds, then let out another wail.

"Mommy!"

Claudia shot an awkward glance at Hugh before lifting the child into her arms.

"Well," she thought, "I guess this is my first time being a mom, in a way."

She couldn't help but give the boy a gentle kiss.

Hugh watched his son cling to a strange woman, calling her 'Mommy,' and had to look away, his heart aching.

Mira stared, completely dumbfounded, as the little boy wrapped his arms around Claudia's neck, crying for his mom.

York saw the child in Claudia's arms, then looked at Hugh standing beside her.

He walked over, his expression unreadable, and asked Claudia, "Do you know each other?"

Claudia glanced at Ann standing behind York and said nothing. No wonder he had insisted on driving her to the hospital this morning. It made sense. The only people who could pull York away from his massive company were Ann and her son. Judging by their reactions, the boy who had injured Hawley was undoubtedly their son, Ethan.
