"What does that have to do with you getting hurt today?" York asked.
Ann rushed to defend herself. "I know what I said on the street that day was harsh and it upset your wife. I just wanted to buy her some flowers and come here to sincerely apologize, to beg her to stop spreading those rumors."
As she spoke, she began to cry. "But your wife deliberately left me standing in the hallway for over an hour, and then she had Master Sayer forcibly take me away."
"Master Sayer knows I'm afraid of heights," she sobbed. "He deliberately tortured me on those high-altitude rides. In the end, he even tied me up in a helicopter, attached a rope to me, and pushed me out of the door!"
Ann couldn't stop shaking. "Master Sayer is a psycho! He found every possible way to torture me. I almost died, York! I was so scared..."
She cried as she reached for York's arm.
York subtly moved away.
His expression was unreadable. "Ann, there are some things I need to make clear to you."
Ann looked up at him. Seeing his expression turn serious, she slowly stopped crying.
"From the moment you and Ethan returned, I have done everything I could for you," York said. "I tried my best to make up for my past mistakes. It's fine for you to have your own agenda, and a certain amount of greed is understandable, but you cannot cross the line."
Ann shook her head in a panic. "York, I don't get what you mean."
"What was your goal in having your mother fake a collapse outside the restaurant?" York asked.
"You refused the compensation I offered you back then, so don't even think about it now," York continued. "As for Ethan's parentage, I promised to help you keep it a secret. As long as you behave yourself, I will keep that promise. But if you cross my line again and bother my wife, I have no problem letting my grandfather deal with you a second time."
Ann's legs gave out, and she collapsed to the floor.
"From now on, if you need anything, contact my assistant, Mark, directly. I'll give him your contact information."
As York turned to leave, Ann scrambled forward and grabbed his leg. "York, are you trying to cut all ties with me?"
York looked down at her. "Change how you address me. You know the consequences if you don't."
