No Divorce? The Billionaire's Love Chase! novel Chapter 261

Having failed to gain any ground with Claudia, Ann had little choice but to withdraw for the time being.

Celia came to find Ann and happened to catch her in the middle of moving.

"Ann, you just moved in. Why are you moving back already?" Celia asked, confused.

Ann's eyes welled up with tears. "Mrs. Ferguson can't stand me and is always causing trouble. York is worried I'll be at a disadvantage, so he asked me to move back for now," she said, her voice thick with self-pity.

Celia tried to comfort her. "Ann, you've already given Mr. Ferguson a son. What are you afraid of? Worse comes to worst, just make a big scene. Mr. Ferguson's heart is with you, so what's there to fear?"

Ann lowered her head, looking guilty. Her son wasn't York's biological child. What grounds did she have to make a scene?

It had been so long since she returned to the country, and nothing had happened between her and York. If York had so much as let her get close, she would have been Mrs. Ferguson long ago, instead of enduring this humiliation.

Ann took Celia's hand, her expression pleading. "Celia, the Ferguson family is one of the top families in Capital City. The gap between my status and York's is huge. I can hardly blame his family for looking down on me."

"I don't care about titles," Ann said. "As long as I'm the one York loves, that's enough. I want to work hard and achieve something on my own so I can be worthy of him."

Ann tested the waters. "Celia, with your impressive background and connections, I'm truly lucky to have you as a friend. You know what they say—the more friends, the more opportunities. So I'll definitely be leaning on you to help me meet new people and broaden my horizons a bit. Hope you don't mind!"

Celia puffed out her chest. "Don't worry, Ann. From now on, my circle is your circle. I'll introduce you to all my friends."

Ann smiled, satisfied.

That evening, York returned home to find Claudia curled up on the sofa, scrolling through her phone.

He placed a manila folder on the coffee table. "Are you feeling any better?" he asked.

Claudia didn't know what game York was playing now, but she had no intention of accepting his assets. Even if she took them, she wouldn't be able to hold onto them.

She just wanted a clean break from York, with no more financial entanglements.

"York, I've seen what you're capable of," she said frankly. "Even if I signed these papers and these assets became mine, you have plenty of ways to take them back whenever you want."

"Just say what you want to say. Don't beat around the bush with me."

York stared at her intently. "I promised you I wouldn't do anything to threaten you again. I will keep my word."

Claudia pushed him away and stood up. "I have work tomorrow. I'm going to bed."

As she turned to leave, York's face darkened, and he blocked her path.
