Later that night, York and Peter arrived at Ferguson Mansion at the same time.
Darleen ran up to them, crying. "Peter, you're finally here! Claudia was punished with the family discipline, and Grandpa made her kneel and wouldn't let her get up."
Before she could finish, York had already stormed into the living room.
When Old Mr. Ferguson saw York had returned, he gave the butler a look, and the butler led all the bodyguards out of the room.
York carefully approached Claudia and bent down to help her up.
Peter pushed him away. "I'm taking her to the hospital."
Both men reached for Claudia at the same time.
Her back ached from the whip, and she had been forced to kneel for a long time. Her face was pale, and her entire body was trembling.
She lifted her eyelids to look at York, her eyes a bleak, empty gray. "I'm fine," she said, her voice weak. "Go take care of her."
Their eyes met and held. A sudden tightness gripped York's chest, and the hand he had extended toward her hung, suspended, in the air.
Claudia turned to Peter. Her lips trembled, and for a long moment, she couldn't speak, but her eyes turned red.
Peter gently lifted her into his arms. "Claudia, you need to remember this: your 'York' died the night Ann came back." He shot a vicious glare at York. "The York standing here now is Ann's husband, the father of Ann's child. He has nothing to do with you!"
Claudia closed her eyes and leaned her head weakly against Peter's shoulder, letting out a soft, "Mm-hmm."
"Mom, no matter what you say, I am not divorcing Claudia!"
York's emotions were spiraling out of control. He fled Ferguson Mansion as if escaping a fire.
He sped all the way to the hospital. Claudia had already been admitted to a room. When Peter came out, he saw York standing by the door, looking lost. He pointed to an empty room next door. "I need to talk to you."
One after the other, they entered the next room. The moment York closed the door and turned around, Peter's fist came flying at him.
With a muffled grunt, York took the punch without defending himself. As Peter's second punch came, York raised his hand and caught it. "Peter, that's enough!"
Peter shook him off and shoved him hard. "You swore in front of Claudia that you would live and die with Ann! Did you ever stop to think how that would make her feel?"
