No Divorce? The Billionaire's Love Chase! novel Chapter 213

Before Old Mr. Ferguson could even speak, York had already declared his stance.

Sewell pointed a finger at his son, his voice thick with fury. "You've thrown away your reputation for a woman! You disgraceful brat!"

York's expression remained unchanged. "Dad, if you're angry, direct it at me. Ann is innocent."

Ann, standing beside York, shifted her eyes nervously. Things had come this far; she had to seize this opportunity and force the Ferguson elders to accept her relationship with York becoming public.

With that thought, Ann bravely stepped forward to face Old Mr. Ferguson.

"Sir," she said, "even if you're going to sentence me to death, please at least give me a chance to explain." Before anyone could respond, she rushed on, "I'm a friend of Miss Hawk's. She invited me to the Grandeur Group gala tonight. I had no idea York and his wife would be there."

Darleen couldn't stand it anymore. "You bitch! You went into my brother's room and wore my sister-in-law's clothes, and you still have the nerve to lie!"

Ann's face flushed with humiliation, but she didn't dare retort. "I'm not lying. My dress got dirty, and York brought me to the lounge so I wouldn't be embarrassed. He let me change into Mrs. Ferguson's clothes."

Before she could finish, Wendy walked up to York. "Do you even remember you have a wife?"

York's complicated gaze shifted to Claudia. "Of course, I do," he said firmly.

Claudia looked down, a sarcastic smile touching her lips. How could he still say something like that after everything that had happened?

Crack!

Wendy's hand flew, striking York hard across the face.

Old Mr. Ferguson looked at York. "I made Claudia the same offer—a billion dollars to not marry you. She tore up the check. She chose to marry you even if it meant defying death."

Ann was furious with jealousy. Why did they only offer her sixty million to go away, but gave that bitch Claudia a billion? What did Claudia have that she didn't?

York stared at Claudia, stunned, a sharp pain tearing through his chest. So, his grandfather had tested her too. The Watkins family had been on the verge of bankruptcy, desperate for money, yet she had refused a fortune and chosen to marry him.

Claudia kept her eyes lowered, deliberately ignoring York's burning gaze. She regretted that decision more than anything.

Seeing York's eyes fixed on Claudia, Ann clutched his arm, her voice a desperate, tearful plea. "York, you have to believe me! Your grandfather forced me to take that money, I swear it!"

York's dark eyes were filled with conflict.
