No Divorce? The Billionaire's Love Chase! novel Chapter 180

But Claudia still refused to look up at him.

Old Mr. Ferguson's sharp gaze pierced through his weary eyes.

"Hold a press conference tomorrow morning. The two of you will appear before the media together to clear up this mess."

Claudia kept her eyes downcast, offering no quick reply.

As she expected, in the eyes of the Ferguson men, infidelity was irrelevant. Only their interests mattered. To them, she was nothing more than a decoration, a convenient veil they could pull out to cover their shame whenever needed.

York glanced discreetly at Claudia beside him. "Don't worry, Grandfather. I'll handle this and put an end to the controversy as quickly as possible."

After York finished speaking, Claudia finally spoke, her tone measured. "I can cooperate with the clarification, but I have a condition."

Her words drew a sharp rebuke from Sewell. "You are a Ferguson! It is your duty to protect the family's interests!"

Claudia's voice was icy. "Dad, please enlighten me. Which part of marital law says a wife is responsible for hiding her husband's mistress and their child, let alone cleaning up his scandals?"

Sewell's face turned ashen with rage. "You are a bankrupt heiress. How dare you negotiate with us! You should take a good look at yourself and see what you're worth!"

Claudia's posture was one of absolute confidence. "Whether I have any worth in your eyes is irrelevant. If you want my cooperation in clearing up this scandal, you have to guarantee that from this day forward, no one in the Ferguson family will interfere with my work or threaten my family for any reason."

After the New Year, she was scheduled to start working at the Harvest family's private hospital. Her family and her career were her last lines of defense. She would not allow anyone to trample on them.

With the matter settled, Claudia and York returned to their own home. The ride was silent. The moment they walked through the door, York grabbed her arm.

"If you wanted to work or anything else, you could have just told me," he demanded. "You didn't have to resort to these tricks."

Her expression was cold. "I don't trust you."

From now on, whatever she wanted, she would get it herself using her own methods. That was a survival skill York himself had taught her.

They stared at each other.

York's face was grim as he asked, word by word, "If you don't trust me, then why did you come back?"
