No Divorce? The Billionaire's Love Chase! novel Chapter 175

"That was an accident," York explained, his voice strained.

Claudia's hands, hanging at her sides, clenched into tight fists. "Then why is it that in every 'accident,' my family and I are the only ones who get hurt?"

York's expression was complex and hard to read. "You can't let this go, can you?"

"I'll remember it for the rest of my life," Claudia said.

The two stared at each other. Then, York turned and left.

As the sound of the front door closing echoed through the apartment, Claudia felt her body go limp.

He had left in such a hurry; he must have gone to take care of Ann and her son. He might not be a good husband, but he was certainly a dedicated father.

If Ann had just come from a slightly better family, they could have had it all. The perfect little family.

Claudia took a shower, turned off all the lights, and went to bed. A husband whose heart was elsewhere wasn't worth losing sleep over, nor was he worth leaving a light on for.

Minutes later, York was knocking on Peter's door upstairs.

Seeing York, Peter couldn't resist a sarcastic remark. "Here to beg for forgiveness?"

York shot Peter a look and walked inside.

Peter clapped his hands. "Can't communicate? Great. You've got something to hold over her anyway. All you need to do is give her an order, and she'll obey."

York tugged at the collar of his shirt in frustration. His voice grew heavy. "I used certain methods to force her back to my side, but my goal was to reconcile, not to become enemies."

Peter looked at him as if he'd grown a second head. "After how you've schemed against her, it would be a miracle if she didn't see you as an enemy."

A heavy pressure settled in York's chest. He poured himself another drink and tossed it back. His voice was barely a whisper. "She's stubborn. If I hadn't used force, she never would have come back."

They had known each other for over twenty years, married for three. They had always been good, always been peaceful. He had never once considered divorce. Not then, not now, and not ever. She had just misunderstood his relationship with Ann and the child. But he couldn't explain it to her right now. Once she slowly came to accept it, to see it with less emotion, their marriage would surely return to how it used to be. He would spend the rest of his life making up for the pain she was enduring now.

The two men sat facing each other on the sofa, their conversation eventually drying up into a shared silence. They drank their own drinks, not even bothering to clink glasses. After a long pause, Peter suddenly jabbed at him again. "You're still going to protect Ann and her son, aren't you? You're not going to explain the truth to Claudia?"
