Claudia glanced at York, then tried to pull her hand away and leave.
Seeing this, York forcibly dragged her around a corner in the hallway.
His eyes were fixed on her face.
"Claudia, you're my wife. What did you mean by what you said to Ann just now?"
Claudia stopped. "You give all your love and trust unconditionally to Ann. You even have a child together. You hurt my brother in front of me for your precious woman. What kind of husband and wife are we?"
York tightened his grip on her hand. "Ann is gentle. She hates conflict. She only went to see you to make peace, I'm sure of it."
Claudia laughed, a bitter, angry sound. "The wife and the mistress making peace? York, do you even hear yourself?"
They stared at each other. York was silent for a moment.
Then he said, "You are my wife. Ann is in my past. I've seen the security footage from tonight, and I have a witness. I didn't wrongly accuse Eddy."
Claudia held back her emotions, her gaze growing colder.
He had questioned the witness later. He had watched the footage later.
When he first entered the room, he had ignored her and her brother to rush to Ann's side, listening only to Ann's side of the story.
Seeing her silence, York tried to explain. "I'm responsible for Eddy's injury. I didn't control my strength. But none of this has anything to do with Ann. Don't take your anger out on her."
Her eyes were moist. "With you protecting her like this, would I dare?"
Their eyes met, and York faltered.
He looked down, changing the subject. "How is Eddy's hand? I'll come with you to see him."
York's attitude wounded Claudia once again.
She thought of her brother's pained and humiliated expression, his injured wrist, and her heart ached.
Claudia retreated to her room, where the tears she had been holding back finally fell.
Sobbing, she took out her phone and messaged Attorney Chase.
If York wouldn't sign the divorce papers, she was ready to take him to court.
Meanwhile, York moved into his new penthouse apartment.
On the living room's open-air balcony, Peter and York stood side-by-side at the railing, each smoking a cigarette.
Having heard that York had injured Eddy, Peter kept giving him a sarcastic thumbs-up. "You even hit your own brother-in-law. Man, I'm impressed. You've got guts."
York corrected him, his face dark. "I didn't hit him. He dislocated his wrist trying to break free."
Peter rolled his eyes. "Ann knew Claudia misunderstood the situation, yet she still went to see her. If I were Eddy, I would've hit her too."
But York didn't see it that way. "Seriously, Ann only went to see Claudia to smooth things over. All she wanted was to get her to come back and fix things with me. She didn't mean any harm."
