Meanwhile, at the Watkins' home.
The family of four had just finished dinner. Claudia was in the kitchen washing dishes and chatting with her parents.
"Sis, phone call for you."
Eddy handed Claudia her phone. She glanced at the unfamiliar number.
After a moment's hesitation, Claudia wiped her hands and went to the living room to answer it.
Her brow furrowed when she heard Ann's voice on the other end.
After hanging up, Claudia made an excuse about taking out the trash and went to the neighborhood gate.
When Ann saw Claudia, she approached her with a smile. "Miss Watkins, York told me you were back. I came by specially to see you."
As she spoke, Ann held out a pie and a fruit basket to Claudia.
Claudia's lips curved into a sarcastic smile, and she made no move to take them.
York could abandon his home for a month for Ann's sake, without a word of explanation.
And the moment she returned, he couldn't wait to report it to Ann.
This was true love.
Claudia masked her feelings and said, "I won't be taking those. If you have something to say, just say it."
The two women stood face to face on the sidewalk. Ann set the gifts down.
She stared at Claudia's strikingly beautiful face, a flash of jealousy in her eyes. "I suppose you came back to spend Thanksgiving with your family, Miss Watkins? When are you planning to leave?"
There was no more spoiled, willful Miss Watkins in Capital City's elite circle.
Now, she was just a woman covered in scars, battered and raw.
Standing before Claudia, Ann felt an inexplicable sense of inferiority.
She deliberately tilted her chin up, trying to appear poised and elegant.
She provoked Claudia, saying, "York is a man with a strong sense of responsibility. The only reasons he hasn't divorced you are out of consideration for the elders and pity for you."
Ann sighed. "I understand how difficult it is for him, so I won't pressure him to divorce you. After all, I'm the one he loves. His heart has always been with me and our son. This title is all he can give you."
"Go to hell!"
Eddy appeared out of nowhere and kicked Ann hard, sending her stumbling into the street.
