It was the young man with the striking eyes.
“Careful,” he murmured.
“Thank you,” Noreen replied politely.
Stepping back, the man offered a curt nod and swiftly walked away.
Claire clicked her tongue. “He's gorgeous, but man, he runs cold.”
Noreen hadn't paid much attention to his looks. All she remembered were those eyes. They carried an inexplicable, sinister chill. Then again, maybe she was just imagining things. It was, after all, their first time crossing paths.
She quickly pushed the odd encounter out of her mind. As soon as she and Claire stepped through the main doors, Noreen immediately spotted the man leaning against a black Phantom, arms crossed.
Seth Harcourt was dressed in a sharp, double-breasted charcoal suit. The tailoring was flawless, highlighting his broad shoulders and exuding a quiet, dominant authority. He had locked his gaze on the entrance long before Noreen even walked out, spotting her the very second she appeared.
His eyes gleamed with a predatory warmth, and the corner of his lips quirked into a devastatingly perfect smirk. He possessed the refined elegance of old money, yet radiated an intoxicating, seductive energy that seemed to charge the very air between them with heavy tension.
The most brilliant detail was her dress—a dusty blue satin gown. And tucked neatly into his breast pocket was a silk square edged with the exact same shade of blue. It fluttered faintly in the night breeze, a deliberate and striking complement to her.
Claire's sharp eyes caught the detail immediately. She yanked Noreen slightly closer and whispered in her ear, “Honey, I am never judging your lack of willpower ever again.”
With a sly fox like that throwing himself at her, who could possibly resist? The fact that Noreen had held out as long as she did was nothing short of miraculous.
Having delivered her tease, Claire didn't wait for a response. She took a step back. “Alright, I'm heading back to the hotel alone. I'm not playing third wheel tonight.”
“What about dinner—”
“Don't worry about me, I'll grab something myself.”
