Noreen and Sanford had a wonderful lunch. When the bill came, Sanford practically fought her to pay it.
"Noreen, please don't argue with me!" Sanford laughed warmly. "Henry made it very clear that our family has to treat you! And don't worry about the stock bailout. I threw in four billion dollars, and in a single day, it multiplied by five! I didn't even help you; I just made a massive profit! So I'm paying for this meal."
Noreen smiled and stopped insisting.
While the server processed the payment, Sanford secretly tried to fish for information about Noreen's love life, hoping to advocate for his son, Henry. He adored Noreen. When Henry had followed her abroad to study, Sanford had been completely supportive, urging his son to use the proximity to win her heart.
But Henry had completely blown it. Four years together, and he hadn't made an inch of progress! It drove Sanford crazy, and it was half the reason he had flown to Rivercrest City.
Just as he opened his mouth to pitch his son, a low, smooth voice drifted over from the entrance.
"What a coincidence."
Seth Harcourt walked in. He hadn't even taken off his dark gray overcoat, the crisp chill of the outdoors still clinging to his broad shoulders. His gaze swept over the table before locking onto Noreen. A faint, knowing smile played on his lips. "I was just grabbing a bite nearby and heard you were here. Thought I'd come say hello."
The air grew perfectly still.
Noreen stared at him, refusing to call out his blatant lie. 'Coincidence,' her foot. He had definitely tracked her down just to crash the lunch.
Sanford swallowed his pitch for Henry.
Seth nodded politely. "Mr. Brooke. It's been a while."
"Indeed," Sanford replied, his eyes darting between Seth and Noreen. The undeniable chemistry between them told him everything he needed to know.
