Hearing her words, Dylan felt a heavy weight settle in his chest.
He had so much he wanted to say.
He wanted to explain the agonizing calculations and struggles he went through when he sacrificed her for his career.
He wanted to talk about the suffocating regret of his rushed marriage to Crystal.
He wanted to describe the utter helplessness he felt when he flew back the second he learned Crystal was attacking Winrich, only to arrive too late.
But the words died on his tongue, and he forced them all back down.
He knew she didn't need to hear any of it.
"Dylan," Noreen finally looked up, her tone as steady as if discussing a routine transaction. "The partnership between Winrich and Omniva Group ends here."
Dylan's fingers, slick from peeling shrimp, suddenly froze.
"Regarding the buyback of Omniva's shares in Winrich."
She continued, every word crisp and decisive, leaving no room for hesitation. "I can offer a ten percent premium over the current market valuation. My legal team has already drafted the agreement. We can sign it whenever you're ready."
Silence hung heavy over the table.
Dylan stared at her. A storm of emotion raged in his eyes before he ruthlessly suppressed it.
He understood perfectly.
This wasn't a business negotiation. This was her severing their connection in the cleanest, most absolute way possible.
His throat tightened painfully, as if he had swallowed a handful of shattered glass.
The love he had personally snuffed out years ago was now burning him alive in a completely different way.
He wanted to reach out, to grab onto something, anything.
But he knew his hands were empty.
When Seth hadn't shown up to Noreen's birthday party last night, Dylan had foolishly believed he still had a chance. He had wanted to try again.
But when he saw the faint, telltale mark hidden beneath the collar of her shirt, he finally accepted reality. He had missed his window.
Once you missed the perfect moment, life rarely offered you a second chance.
After a long silence, he finally answered.
"Alright."
Just one word.
As soft as a resigned sigh.
