"Oh my God…" was all Lucius managed to say before collapsing onto the bathroom floor, right beside where Amanda was sitting.
"Told you… We had sex like rabbits, and now we're bringing a little bunny into the world," Amanda said, staring at him while he held the test showing she was about eight weeks pregnant.
Lucius glanced at the test again, then quickly grabbed all the others. Every single one said the same thing—there was no mistake.
"We've been completely irresponsible!" he finally blurted out.
"Why?" Amanda asked, a little startled.
"What do you mean why?" Lucius shot her a surprised look.
"There's a baby on the way, and we've still been having sex like a couple of reckless teenagers! Don't you think that could be dangerous for the baby?" he said, clearly freaking out.
Hearing that, Amanda felt a wave of warmth spread through her chest.
"You're not mad, or scared, or regretful, or anything negative?" she asked in disbelief.
"Why would I be?" Lucius shot back with a question of his own.
"Well… because we're still in college and now I'm pregnant," Amanda said, clearly worried.
"I doubt we're the first or the only ones in this situation. The only thing I don't know is how I'm going to explain this to…" Lucius stopped mid-sentence, not daring to say the name.
Even thinking it felt like summoning him.
"Moriarty?" Amanda guessed.
"Don't say it out loud! He'll appear out of thin air," Lucius said, imagining the worst.
"We'll tell him together, and whatever happens, happens. Besides, why are you so scared of Moriarty? At this point, I figured your dad would be the one you'd worry about," she said, genuinely surprised.
"Maximus's a calm man compared to Moriarty. That guy might be all love and sweetness with you, but with me? He'll probably think I manipulated you or got you pregnant on purpose just to trap you," Lucius said, picturing the whole awkward conversation.
"Thank you…" she whispered.
"What are you thanking me for?" he asked.
"For this… I wasn't planning any of this. I'm scared. But seeing how calm you are, it's helping me feel the same," she said, tears forming in her eyes.
"Well, this is how we have to take it. The baby's already here, so we're gonna raise them the same way we made them—with all the love we have for each other," Lucius said with a warm smile.
Then he leaned in and kissed the top of her head.
"Now you're stuck with me for life… and don't even think about running, because I promise you—it'll be impossible."
"Lucius…" Amanda said, getting up and straddling him so she could look him right in the eyes.
He looked at her, smiled, and gently pulled her face toward him for a kiss.
