- Have you ever loved her?
"What are you trying to say?"
William stood beside her and looked at her.
"I admire foster mother." Alice looked at the weeds inside and said, "How did foster mother endured all of these? She gave birth to a baby and was buried, beat and stepped on by a horse in order to be a vegetable, what supported her during all of these?"
"I don't know."
William was not interested in the thoughts of others, but he had to admit that she was a tenacious woman.
Alice quietly looked inside, and her vision suddenly blurred, as though she had seen the scene a few decades ago.
The beautiful young girl still had some of her plumpness, and the mad horse was trampling her. She had nowhere to hide, nowhere to run, but there was a firm look in her eyes, a clear, unswerving determination.
She held on.
She had to hold on.
William stood there and watched the sunset. Seeing that Alice was standing still, he reached out and grabbed her hand.
"I see."
Alice suddenly said.
"What?"
William asked.
"She is a very intelligent woman. She understands foster father's hatred and pain, and his desire to live. She is unwilling to force him." Alice said, "She carried all the sadness on her shoulders and she had always clearly understood what she was doing."
"She knows that only by sacrificing herself can she protect everyone, so no matter how painful it is, as long as she thinks about how those people she loves can live on in a way she likes, she can hold on." Alice's eyes were a little sore, and she turned to look into William's eyes. "She's really very great."
As long as she thought about that her foster father could escape and live a good life, that her family wouldn't be implicated, she would have the greatest will to survive.
This was what Angelina thought when she endured all of the pain.
"It's really stupid." William said coldly, "Why would a woman do so much? "
There are some things a man should do.
Alice gave a bitter laugh as she looked at William, "If there comes a day when I have to do such a foolish thing in order to fulfill your wish, I think I will do it too."
As long as it was for William's sake, she would do anything.
The look in her eyes was too resolute, making William freeze for a moment. He was stunned for two seconds, and then, he glared at her fiercely, "You would not have such a chance! Give up!"
"I mean if."
"There are no 'ifs'!"
"Why?" Alice asked.
"Because I only want you!" William said, "I only want you, tell me, how are you going to do such a foolish thing to help me?"
Alice stood there in a daze. In the next second, she threw herself into William's embrace and hugged his back tightly with both her hands.
The last of the afterglow shone on her.
She closed her eyes. She was so moved.
William was really too nice to her.
The wounds on William's body hurt severely, but he did not push her away. Instead, he held her tightly in his embrace.
Suddenly, the sound of hurried footsteps could be heard.
They turned around and saw a bodyguard standing there. "Second Young Master, Young Madam, that..."
The bodyguard swallowed his saliva.
"What?"
William said coldly.
"It's Angelina." The bodyguard stood there and said, "Angelina passed away, just now."
Hearing that, Alice's eyes became even more unfocused, her hands slipped off William's body and her eyes became red.
This news was within their expectations.
Angelina's organs had already shrunk. Her awakening was a miracle, but she could not hold on for more than a few days.
She silently prayed that a miracle would happen again, and that it would allow Angelina and her foster father to stay for a little longer, to make up for the time they had missed.
As it turned out, miracles did not happen one after the other.
"Where's Daniel?"
William asked coldly.
"Steward Daniel accompanied her. I can see that he's in a good mood and is discussing the arrangements about the funeral with everyone. He said that he didn't want to bother Young Master, so he asks Young Master and Young Madam to leave the island first."
The bodyguard said.
"What's there to be angry about? I am the daughter of my foster father. Naturally, I have to take care of the funeral of my foster mother." Alice said without thinking, and then raised her head and looked at William.
Daniel was clearly stronger than they thought. He had been maintaining his best condition to prevent any mistakes during the funeral.
After Angelina was buried, they set up a bonfire beside the ocean according to the tradition. Everyone sat around the bonfire and ate their food.
Alice did not have much appetite, she just sat there drinking hot water. William and David were talking about other things while the rest also chatted about their own things.
Alice held the cup and looked at the bonfire in front of her. The flames were blossoming passionately, like a young girl dancing with passion.
She turned her eyes to look at the sea. Suddenly, she had a lot of memories attached to it.
Warm.
Cruel.
Sad.
Alice turned to look at William. He was currently discussing some business matters with David, and there were many terminologies that she couldn't quite understand.
She turned around to talk to Daniel. But when she turned around, she did not see Daniel nor Sue.
Alice was stunned, she looked towards the direction of the small inn, where the lights were shining.
She stood up and walked towards the inn alone. Alice walked into the inn, but before she could raise her head, she heard Sue's questioning voice.
"Have you ever loved her?"
Alice raised her head to look, only to see Daniel dressed in a black suit sitting on the stairs with his back against the wall. His expression was hidden, one of his hands held his pocket watch tightly.
Sue stood at the bottom of the stairs, raised her eyes and looked in the direction of Daniel.
Daniel sat there and did not move. Sue continued to ask, unwilling to give up, "I really do not understand whether you are emotional or heartless. Is this question very difficult to answer?"
Daniel did not speak.
"I am your daughter. Do I have the right to know the answer?" Sue stood there and asked with a sad voice.
As soon as she said this, the inn was in silence.
Alice realized that she should not appear, she took a step back and slowly retreated. She did not leave, she only stood there quietly, raising her eyes to the sky.
A crescent moon stopped in the night sky.
That bright light was extremely cold. It was so cold that it made her feel cold.
Alice stood at the doorway. From start to finish, she did not hear a single response from Daniel, but she wanted to know whether or not Daniel had loved Angelina.
Whether or not he had loved, his feelings of guilt towards Angelina overshadowed all other emotions.
