My Hunted Mate novel Chapter 60

Corinna

" Cori, you've just given birth do you really think this is the-" Gia starts, but I cut her off with a warning glare.

" There is no time to argue this. " I growl, turning to Kai. " Now, even though my body heals fast, it doesn't heal that fast, so I'm going to need your blood. "

He looks away like he's weighing his options, until his face crinkles for a few seconds and he brings his wrist to his mouth, extending his fangs and biting into the flesh.

Without hesitation, I grab his wrist gulping down the blood, feeling my strength returning as I do so, as the euphoric feeling grows, I detach myself from him.

" We need someone to look after Elias. " I announce.

" Brother, you stay. " Kai directs toward Phoenix, who's eyes dart between us until I nod in agreement.

" You're sure about this? " Phoenix questions, gently taking Elias into his arms.

" Of course. " I smile, moving the bed sheets away from my body and standing to my feet.

My clothing had been replaced with a blue hospital gown, not bothering to change, I place a small kiss on Elias' forehead, promising him I would be back soon.

Kai takes a moment with our newborn also before we join hands and exit the room with Jack and Gia following behind.

The house is completely abandoned as we run through it, but the second we step outside the strong overwhelming scent of blood and burning flesh cuts through my senses.

Kai's phone begins to ring loudly from the pocket of his jeans, he answers it but never stops moving. Listening to the voice on the other end, I watch as he shakes his head. "Dahlia? No no, stay where you are, don't return home yet."

Dahlia's panicked voice fills my ears as I tune into the conversation. " Why? Mal, What's wrong? "

" We're being attacked, Corinna's pack, they're here. So stay where you and your beloved are safe, Sister. " Kai doesn't give her a chance to reply before he ends the call.

When we reach the lake, the smell only increases, I find myself swallowing hard at the sight of the blood covered grass, the bodies of the dead either ripped apart in a bloody mess on the ground or burning until they're unrecognisable.

Ahead of me, I notice my cousin Elliot's wolf, fighting against Darius, just as he gets Darius to the floor and goes to sink his teeth into him, I throw myself on top of him.

We roll around on the floor, taking chunks out of each other with our teeth and claws, blood gushes from my wounds, coating my fur matting it together in an unpleasant way.

Finally I pin him to the ground, roughly tearing the front of his throat from his neck, then I run off, leaving him to bleed out and die alone.

My eyes spot my father in the distance, making a loud enraged growl echo through the trees as I remember how he slit Helena's throat without a care or a second thought, all for a warning of a war that was bound to happen from the moment he and my uncle made the decision to hunt me.

Sprinting toward him, I continue to viscously end any wolf who gets in my way, but as I get closer to my father who is ripping through our clan members, my gaze falls on my mate who is being attacks by seven wolves at once, all the while my uncle is getting closer to him, blood dripping from his canines.

Immediately I change my course, pushing myself to get to him as quickly as possible. Relief begins to flood me as he takes down three of the seven wolves, but my relief vanishes in a cloud of smoke as I watch my uncle leap into the air and tear my mate's head clean off of his body.

Loud whimpers of grief and hopelessness erupt from my body, my run slows dramatically as my uncle shifts back, lifting my mate's head from the ground by his hair, smirking directly at me as his tosses it into the flames that were already burning another lifeless body.
