My Heart only Beats for You (Natalie Godfrey) novel Chapter 2682

Dory's questions pierced Treamine deeply.

He felt a sharp pain in his heart,

Sheldon noticed it too.

He quickly told Dory to stop asking so many questions.

Even though she was young, Dory was especially sharp towards people's expressions and had learned to read their emotions. She had gotten used to it after being repeatedly yelled at and beaten up by her mother.

Just by looking at Sheldon's face, Dory knew what he was going to tell her to do.

She quickly shut her mouth and stopped talking.

Yesseca, however, was feeling quite restless.

She had lost her appetite.

Things had gotten so incredibly awkward that she couldn't stand sitting around anymore.

Yesseca turned towards Dory and said, "Dory, didn't you say you wanted to buy some toys? We should go and get them."

Yesseca didn't like telling lies.

And she hated feeling panicked.

But right now, she had to.

She told a white lie.

Yesseca was afraid of offending Tremaine if she simply left abruptly.

Dory was surprised.

"But Auntie Yesseca, I never said I wanted to buy any toys."

Yesseca looked at her.

She had messed up.

She had forgotten to tell Dory about it before blurting out her white lie.

But Dory quickly caught on and played along.

She was a very intelligent girl after all.

She then stood up and said, "Oh yeah! I remember now! Yes there was that toy I saw on the way here."

Yesseca heaved out a sigh of relief.

But based on his reaction, it seems he had bought it!

Sheldon then sat down and accompanied Tremaine for the rest of their meal.

After they were done, Tremaine said, "Sheldon, I must be a terrible person. So bad that she can't even stand to have a meal with me."

Sheldon realized then that Tremaine was completely aware that he had been lied to.

"But I still finished my meal." Tremaine continued, "I imagined that she was still with me, finishing our meal together."

Sheldon felt very sad.

"Sir, let's go."

Sticking around in this restaurant wouldn't do them any good.

He figured it would be best to head back to Nashaland.

Back in Nashaland, he could at least immerse himself in work and keep Yesseca out of his mind.

Tremaine nodded. "Yes, let's go back to Nashaland."

Yesseca took Dory to the toy store.
