There was no smile or praise from Aimeen.
Only scolding and beating.
Tears welled up in Dory's eyes.
After waiting for a while, she felt a squeeze in her heart.
She remembered the food being thrown to the ground.
And the burger Aimeen stepped on.
Those were all good food.
Dory remembered she saw a girl her age eating a burger.
It was the first time she had seen a burger.
Curious, she kept staring at the girl and her burger.
The girl told her that it was delicious.
The burger had chicken, tomatoes, cucumbers, and bread.
And there was also ketchup.
The girl's description made Dory drool.
The girl suddenly rolled her eyes. "Do you want to have a bit?"
Dory nodded vigorously.
The girl put the burger near Dory's mouth.
Just as Dory was about to take a bite, the girl took it away.
The girl looked at her mockingly and said, "You want this? Ask your mom to buy one for you! Stop looking at me, you little beggar!"
After that, the girl left, leaving Dory who was frozen in the spot.
The children in the neighborhood didn't like to play with Dory.
It was because of Dory's clothes.
There were many holes in them.
Other little girls would have mothers to tie their hair forthem.
They wore all kinds of beautiful hairstyles.
Some had ponytails, some french braids, and some fishtail braids.
But no one had ever done her hair.
Her hair was always messy.
She didn't even have a comb.
Aimeen never let her use the only comb they had.
Aimeen told Dory that it was for use only.
Later, Dory found a comb from the garbage.
After thinking about it for a while, Dory quietly climbed out of bed.
She entered the kitchen.
She saw the big bag of food in the trash can.
She wanted to bring it back to her room.
Then, she thought of how Aimeen would be mad if she saw her.
With that, Dory decided to eat it on the spot.
And she would tell Aimeen she took the trash out in the morning.
This way, Aimeen would never know.
And the food wouldn't go to waste.
Meaning she didn't let the kind lady down.
Dory picked up the food in the trash can and ate it.
The food was dirty since it had been on the floor.
Moreover, some of the food had been trampled to pieces.
But Dory didn't mind.
No one had ever cooked for her since she could remember.
