Emily raised an eyebrow.
Andrew glanced at the tense faces around him, then lowered his gaze to Dennis. “Did you say thank you?”
Dennis’s head snapped up, his voice rising, “I did!”
Andrew turned to Emily. “Did he?”
Dennis stared at Emily, almost pleading. She just shrugged. “He did.”
Dennis let out a shaky breath, relieved.
“But…” Emily drawled.
Andrew’s eyes shifted to her. “But what?”
Emily smiled, pointing at Dennis. “He still owes me an apology.”
Andrew frowned. “Why?”
Emily recounted everything Dennis had accused her of earlier. When she finished, she held her hands out. “I saved him, and he turned around and blamed me for everything. I don’t think asking for an apology is too much, do you?”
A shadow crossed Andrew’s face. He leaned in, eyes sharp on Dennis. “Dennis, did you say those things?”
Dennis’s eyes darted nervously. His breath quickened and his lips pressed into a thin, tense line—he was clearly anxious.
Andrew’s voice dropped low, but the authority in it cut through the room. “Dennis. Answer me.”
Dennis flinched, on the verge of tears.
He didn’t need to say anything. His reaction said it all.
“So it’s true,” Andrew said. “Dennis, apologize.”
