My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 776

She was slipping away, her consciousness fading like the last traces of sunlight at dusk.

The voices of two men talking nearby grew distant—not because they lowered their voices, but because her mind no longer seemed able to process the words. It was as if a wall had gone up between her and the world, muffling everything, making it all unreal.

A single thought drifted through the haze.

Where is Tristan Davis?

He must have gone to find Alex White by now. Maybe he already knows she’s missing...

Is he desperately searching for her?

Her head lolled back against the seat. Her eyelids fluttered, then closed completely, surrendering her to darkness.

Tristan Davis moved quickly. He launched the tracking system from the control room, and in less than twenty minutes, he’d pinpointed the black sedan’s license plate. The car had stopped at an abandoned factory on the outskirts of the capital.

Jesse felt a rush of relief when the news came through.

Thank God. He’d been driving almost blindly, following the general direction the black sedan had taken. At least he hadn’t taken a wrong turn or fallen behind—if anything, he’d gotten a little closer. He wasn’t on the exact same road, but that hardly mattered; as long as he caught up at the next intersection, he’d be fine.

Tristan had started out from farther away, so he was a bit behind Jesse. He told Jesse to get there as quickly as possible, to not waste a second. Jesse promised he would.

What surprised Jesse was that Andrew Lane had also managed to trace the black sedan at almost the same moment.

Everything was going unusually smoothly. That meant whoever had taken Emily Blair either hadn’t bothered to avoid surveillance, or—more likely—simply didn’t care if they were seen. Maybe they wanted to be found.

Still, Jesse couldn’t help glancing at Andrew Lane several times.
