My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 772

Emily Blair glanced over, but just as quickly looked away.

The sleek black sedan’s door swung open with a quiet hiss as she lowered her gaze to her phone. When she glanced up again, two tall figures flashed past her field of vision.

Before she could react, a sharp pain shot through the back of her neck. The world blurred, her consciousness slipped away in an instant, and her head slumped against the wheelchair’s headrest.

To passersby, it looked perfectly ordinary: family had simply come to take their sick relative home.

The two men were plainly dressed, their faces unremarkable. They leaned in, speaking softly to the frail woman in the wheelchair. “Your legs aren’t doing so well—let us help you into the car, okay?”

Positioned on either side of the wheelchair, they completely blocked anyone’s view of Emily. From a distance, it seemed as if the thin woman nodded in agreement. The men broke into reassuring smiles, raising their voices slightly so others could hear, “We’ll be careful, don’t worry. Wouldn’t want you to get hurt.”

With that, one man bent down and carefully lifted Emily in his arms, his expression gentle and affectionate as he placed her in the back seat. He leaned in further, and to anyone watching, it looked like he was just fastening her seatbelt with careful attention.

The other man briskly folded up the wheelchair and stowed it in the trunk. Both men climbed into the car, and the sedan slipped quietly away from the curb.

The whole scene radiated warmth and normalcy, nothing even a little out of place.

A few pedestrians glanced over before continuing on with their day, never suspecting that Emily Blair was unconscious.

Not long after the black sedan disappeared, Jesse returned, a bag of groceries in hand, only to find the spot empty where Emily should have been.

He didn’t panic right away. Instead, his expression darkened as he scanned the area, searching every corner. Emily was still in her wheelchair—she couldn’t have gotten far on her own in such a short time.

When Jesse confirmed she was nowhere in sight, he pulled out his phone and dialed her number.

Emily hadn’t let go of her phone all day; if he called, she would answer. But she didn’t.
