My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 735

Benjamin Gomez took a sip of his whiskey, a faint smile curling at his lips. “Are you doubting me?”

Isabella Austin hesitated for a moment before speaking plainly. “You promised you’d deal with Emily Blair, so I just…”

Benjamin only chuckled, ignoring Isabella’s question. Instead, he slid his plate across the table, the steak already cut into neat pieces. “Eat first.”

Isabella tried to suppress her suspicion, picking up her fork and eating the steak slowly, one bite at a time.

Meanwhile, Emily Blair hadn’t seen Tristan Davis for most of the day. Emma George had stopped by twice, each time bringing her a bowl of homemade chicken soup and insisting she finish both the soup and the chicken drumstick.

With a fractured leg and bruises all over, Emily couldn’t get out of bed on her own. Even the short trip from the bed to the bathroom required the help of the nurse she’d hired. Each journey felt like an ordeal, leaving her exhausted.

Which meant she couldn’t go looking for Tristan, and he hadn’t come looking for her, either.

By eight that evening, the sky outside her window had faded into darkness, but Tristan still hadn’t shown up.

Emily kept an ear out for any sounds in the hallway, hoping to hear even a snippet of conversation about Tristan, or perhaps his footsteps. But there was nothing.

Did he really leave?

She pulled her gaze away from the door, forcing herself to accept the silence.

Knock, knock, knock—

At the sound of someone at the door, Emily’s head snapped up. “Come in.”

But it wasn’t Tristan she saw. It was Andrew Lane.

Disappointment flickered through her, and she slowly looked away.

Out of the corner of her eye, she watched as Andrew crossed the room and came to stand beside her bed.

“That’s twice now.”
