My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 721

But the call wouldn’t go through. No one picked up—just an automated disconnect.

Elizabeth Wilson’s throat felt parched. She tried dialing again.

Another agonizing minute dragged by. Still, only the automated response.

Elizabeth couldn’t accept it. She hit redial, stubbornly refusing to give up.

Tristan Davis was pacing the living room, his expression stormy as he searched for his phone. After a minute or two, he finally found it wedged in the corner of the sofa. As soon as he had it in hand, he immediately called Emily Blair.

Seeing this, Elizabeth ended her own call and fixed her gaze on the phone in Tristan’s hand.

Unsurprisingly, his call wouldn’t go through either.

Tristan tried again. And again. Each time, nothing.

The atmosphere in the living room seemed to solidify, the air so heavy it felt suffocating.

Tristan pressed his lips together, slipped his phone into his pocket, and said, “We’re on Harmony Road, near St. Mary’s Hospital. Let’s head over there and see what’s happening.”

Elizabeth nodded at once. “Okay.”

Tristan drove. Neither of them spoke during the ride, their faces grim.

He looked nothing like his usual self—his brow deeply furrowed, lips clamped tight, every muscle drawn taut, as though his composure was held together by a single fragile thread. If that thread snapped, he’d lose control completely, the weight of disaster crashing down.

Elizabeth wasn’t faring any better. She stared blankly out the window, but only she knew how hard she was squeezing her phone.

Suddenly, the shrill ring of her phone shattered the silence, unnervingly loud in the quiet car.
