My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 711

He couldn’t believe Isabella Austin was capable of the things Emily Blair had accused her of.

But all the way home, Alex White’s mind wouldn’t stop replaying what Emily Blair and Elizabeth Wilson had said.

“I just don’t think she could do something so heartless…”

“I have proof. She did it.”

“She wired money to Matthew Ross’s sister, Cynthia… The transfer records are hard evidence.”

“I’ve got records of her setting up a trust fund overseas…”

The words circled relentlessly in his mind. No matter how hard he tried to shut them out, they came creeping back.

Alex’s frown deepened, a hot rush of anger climbing up from his chest to his head. Usually, he wasn’t easily bothered by reckless drivers cutting him off, but today, every careless swerve sent his temper flaring. He found himself gripping the steering wheel, itching to pull over and confront them.

By the time he got home, the frustration hadn’t faded. He parked in the garage and sat there for a moment, staring at Isabella’s name in his contacts.

He hesitated.

As a doctor, he held himself to a certain ethical standard.

He hated to admit it, but even though he wanted to dismiss Emily Blair’s claims, doubt had already taken root in his mind.

He just wanted to ask Isabella straight out. If she denied it, he’d believe her—no more questions, no more suspicions.

But still, he hesitated. He felt guilty for even thinking such things about her.

After a long moment to collect himself, Alex finally called Isabella.

Only then did he realize he was still in the underground garage—no signal. The call wouldn’t go through.

He let out a dry, frustrated laugh and got out of the car.
