My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 709

Emily Blair’s reaction was exactly what Alex White expected. “Let’s try again. We can’t just let this go.”

Alex had half-anticipated that, even after he’d publicly turned her down, Emily would shamelessly come find him again. But she didn’t.

Not even at the end of the workday.

He told himself he didn’t care about Emily Blair; what truly bothered him was the sense of being watched and hounded.

Changing into his street clothes, Alex exchanged a few words with his colleagues and prepared to leave.

He’d barely stepped out of the department when, turning the corner, he spotted Emily Blair and Elizabeth Wilson standing by the door, backs to him, locked in quiet conversation.

His footsteps must have made some noise, but neither woman seemed to notice. They remained heads together, voices low.

Alex’s brow furrowed. He instantly assumed Emily was here to try and corner him again.

A couple passing coworkers noticed and shot him knowing looks, eyebrows raised in silent teasing.

On a whim, Alex decided to eavesdrop, holding a finger to his lips to shush a grinning colleague, who nodded back with a look of gleeful anticipation.

Alex crept up behind Emily and Elizabeth, finally catching bits of their conversation.

Elizabeth sounded incredulous. “Are you serious? She actually did something like that?”

Emily replied in a hushed, certain voice, “I’m sure. There’s no one else it could have been.”

Elizabeth shook her head, clearly skeptical. “That’s insane. I mean, she’s not a good person, but I can’t believe she’d do something that awful. Emily, are you sure you’re not mistaken?”

Emily’s tone was firm. “I’m not mistaken. It was her.”

He? She? Who are they talking about? Alex frowned, straining to piece things together.
