My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 705

Brandon Ross stammered, “I—I didn’t say anything, I really didn’t—”

“Tell the truth,” Isabella Austin snapped, her voice tight with frustration. “Lying now is pointless.”

On the other end of the line, Brandon’s voice dropped to an anxious whisper. “How did it get so bad that the police showed up?”

Isabella closed her eyes in exasperation. “That’s a question for you. Why didn’t you listen to me? Why did you go and tell Emily Blair things you had no business telling her?”

Brandon mumbled, “We didn’t say much. We just told her you used your trust fund to pay for Helen and me to go to school. That’s all, I swear.”

Isabella could feel her blood pressure rising.

That trust fund—combined with the whole mess surrounding Brandon and Helen’s identities—was more than enough to prove there was something illegal between her and Matthew Ross.

No wonder the police had zeroed in on her so quickly. So it was these two idiots who’d spilled everything.

Brandon was still nervously seeking reassurance. “Ms. Austin, that shouldn’t cause any trouble, right?”

Isabella let out a bitter laugh. “You’ve ruined your brother’s life.”

“And you’ve ruined mine, too!”

She ended the call abruptly, her mind racing.

No time to waste. Isabella hurried over to Benjamin Gomez, shooting him a look that begged him to eat faster.

Benjamin, seeing the urgency in her eyes, didn’t dare drag things out. He wolfed down a few more bites and set his fork and knife aside.

“Shirley,” he called out.

Shirley, the nanny who looked after little Ashley, appeared in the doorway from the kitchen. “Yes, Mr. Gomez? Do you need something?”
