My Four Miraculous Treasures (Willow and Jasper) novel Chapter 327

She couldn’t understand it: Why had Jasper wanted her to make the decision over whether or not to sign the sponsorship agreement for the Food Appreciation Contest?

Did Edith Price use to do this for him?

Willow thought long and hard… but she simply couldn’t figure out what Jasper was up to. He was an eccentric figure, capricious and confounding.

On tenterhooks the whole day, she somehow made it to the end of another work day. Jasper hadn’t come looking for her again, which came as no small relief.

The very second that the clock reached the appointed time, Willow got up and left immediately, without waiting around for Jasper like she’d done on her first day.

First, she went to the mall to pick up that coat, and then she took the bus home.

On the bus, she took the coat out to have a look at it: Not bad, largely identical to the coat that Xavier had thrown over her, that time.

It was important to note that this particular item had barely cost her a hundred bucks—as opposed to a whopping thirty thousand for the genuine article!

Willow felt a certain sense of accomplishment over her triumphant money-saving feat. Truly, the greatest value came from investing in one’s own self.

As she made her way back to her apartment, she caught sight of two children engaged in an epic battle with a puppy dog.

The puppy stood a couple of paces away from the children, yapping up at them with great force and vigor, asserting itself as a ferocious beast.

The two children were both girls, both four years old.

The one in front, with the short hair and wearing overalls, was Lilith, holding out one arm protectively to keep Hailey behind herself. Hailey, with her pigtails and her chubby little face, clutched Lilith’s shirt from behind, her knees knocking together with fright.

Lilith used herself to shield Hailey from danger. “Don’t be scared, sis!” she cried out. “I’ll protect you!”

And then the little girl barked right back at the puppy, as loudly as she could, to establish her dominance in this stand-off.

It was adorable.

The puppy was instantly silenced by Lilith’s aggressive display. With a whimper, it tucked its tail between its legs and ran over to a larger dog nearby. That was its mother, and the puppy nuzzled urgently against her flank, whining for succor. Its mother licked the top of its head affectionately in response.

Entering the apartment, she was greeted by the delicious smell of cooked food. Having skipped lunch earlier, she’d already been starving all day long. The tantalizing aromas instantly caused her mouth to fill up with drool. She couldn’t stand it.

She hurried into the kitchen, washed her hands, and then got started on the food right away.

Lara emerged from the kitchen with another platter of freshly cooked food, and caught her daughter wolfing down what was already out on the table. She frowned disapprovingly. “What a sight you are, gobbling it all away like that… as though you haven’t eaten in a week!”

“Not far from the truth: I missed lunch today,” Willow mumbled around a mouthful of food.

“Very well, eat up then. Afterward, you’ll have to go meet your aunt at the hospital. Your cousin Samantha is being discharged today, and you’ll have to give them both a lift home.”

Willow was dismayed to hear this. “Why do I have to do that?!”

“Your company provided you with a car, didn’t they? Go pick them up in that fancy new car, and let them see that my Willow is doing just fine for herself! See if they’ll turn their noses up at us anymore!”

Lara still hadn’t forgotten that day, when Samantha had shown off her expensive car to the whole village, and then mocked Lara’s side of the family for having to take the train.
