The other two, Tristan and Lilith, remained cool and distant. They watched their two coy siblings in their mother's arms while eating French fries, refusing to join.
Among the four children, Julian and Hailey were soft-hearted and loved acting spoiled. Tristan and Lilith were cool and composed, and less clingy.
Each one of them was unique.
Lara came out of the kitchen with the dishes. She put the plate on the table rather roughly, and said unhappily, "Why are you back? It’s still early! Did you get fired again? We can’t put food on the table anymore. Can’t you do something?"
Lara had to take care of four children every day. She couldn’t take her eyes off them, worried they would get lost if she wasn’t careful enough. If she had money, she would hire a nanny to assist her. She wouldn’t need to be so exhausted every day.
Unfortunately, Willow was struggling to make ends meet. Her salary was insufficient to cover the family expenses, let alone hire a nanny.
Lara was so, so tired.
Willow held Hailey and Julian’s hands, and stood up. "Mom, don’t worry. I didn’t lose my job. I just came back to check on them."
Rachel came out of the bathroom. "Is that Willow?"
Willow beamed with joy. "Rachel!"
"Hey! Just helping your mom with the children," said Rachel.
Lara complained, "We’d spend our lunch hour looking at each other’s faces if Rachel didn’t bring us vegetables and rice!"
When she was done complaining, she glared hatefully at Willow and went into the kitchen again.
Willow scratched her head, but said nothing. Her salary would be enough for the month if Lara didn’t go gambling and lost the eleven thousand dollars.
"Rachel, thanks a lot," Willow said gratefully.
Rachel didn’t mind. "Don’t say that. We’re friends. Besides, I’m their godmother. I’ll do my part to raise them."
He would never let a scammer talk to his mother or Ms. Rachel!
Willow and Rachel looked at each other with a smile when they heard the classic greeting scammers often used. They shook their heads knowingly.
A scammer, confirmed.
"I’m Tyson Ward, the assistant to the CEO of Hughes Corporation," the voice continued.
At that, Willow's smile froze immediately.
She was about to answer, when she heard Julian say, "Hello, mister. I’m his son. Does my father know you’re pretending to be his assistant?"
These were the words Julian often used when dealing with scammers.
Willow gasped, shocked, and tried to grab the phone from Julian.
