“What? A coincidence?”

“I myself was also attending a company dinner here,” Xavier explained.

It was the truth. He’d just been coming out of the restroom, when he caught sight of Willow coming in. Curious, he’d followed her to her table, which was how he’d been there to witness Yelena’s abuse against her.

Unwilling to let that stand, he’d gotten involved.

Willow considered this a moment, then said, “You’d better get back in there, then. I’ll find my own way back.” She placed a hand on the door handle meaningfully, indicating that he should unlock it for her.

“Never mind, the director of human resources will handle things. Anyway, it’s hardly even my company anymore…”

This gave Willow pause. “What do you mean?”

Xavier leaned back upon the seat, folding his hands behind his head. “You haven’t heard?” He turned to look at her.

“About what?” Willow was completely bewildered.

“Goodwill Technologies has been bought over by my Uncle Jasper.”

“When did that happen?” Willow burbled, in shock and confusion.

“The day before yesterday, when he snatched you back to be his secretary.”

Willow’s eyes flew wide with surprise.

But then she remembered asking Tyson about this: Could employees really be transferred between separate companies this easily?

Tyson’s answer was that it was as easy as the boss wanting it to be so.

What did that make her, in his eyes? Just another asset to be acquired? Had he performed an aggressive take-over to make her his woman?

All because he’d taken her virginity, that night five years ago… and now he wanted her all to himself, so that no other man would even be allowed to come near her, ever again?

Her future seemed bleak. She couldn’t imagine the cruel fate that awaited her, at the end of this road. She shivered, consumed with despair.

“Whatever your Uncle Jasper’s motivations, your guess is as good as mine. It’s late, now. I wanna go home. Please open the door so I can leave,” she reasoned with him.

At this point, it still wasn’t such a big deal, two people chatting in the backseat of a car.

“I’ll drive you home,” Xavier declared, making to open the door so that he could move over to the driver’s seat in front.

However, it occurred to him that doing this might also allow Willow to get out of the car and escape. What would he do, then?
