Helen went to the door.
“Aunt Helen, I’m home.” Rachel ran into Helen while holding a plastic bag. She quickly forced a smile and said, “Willow is working overtime today so she won’t be coming home. I bought some vegetables at the supermarket. Have these for dinner.”
Willow had told her to tell her mother and aunt that she was working overtime. They mustn’t find out that she was being locked up, or they would worry.
Rachel wasn’t used to lying, so she was thinking of what she should say.
She went to the supermarket on her way back to buy some ingredients. That way, Helen and Lara would be too busy to ask her questions.
“If Willow is working overtime, does that mean she’s not coming home for dinner?” Helen took the plastic bag and then looked over Rachel’s shoulder. “Where are the kids?”
After all, Tristan and Julian left with her.
So why was Rachel back alone?
“We ran into Aunt Lara at the square and they wanted to play with her,” Rachel explained.
“Call Willow and ask her to try to come home. A guest is looking for her.” Helen was worried about mistreating the guest.
“A guest? Who?” Out of curiosity, Rachel walked in to see the intimidating man sitting on the sofa.
She gasped. “Mr. Hughes!”
Jasper was here!
Tall and striking, the man was dressed in a black suit, looking most dignified and elegant.
He was stunning just sitting there. Everything else around him paled in comparison. His unique temperament practically made him glow.
Jasper turned to glance at Rachel. He instantly recognized her to be the mother of the naughty children who had ruined his office. She was also Willow’s friend.
This was unbelievable.
While Rachel was still in a daze, Helen nudged her gently with an elbow and asked, “Rachel, do you know him too?”
Rachel snapped out of her reverie and answered with widened eyes, “He’s Hughes Corporation’s CEO, Willow’s boss.”
Helen was shocked. “Willow’s boss? Why is he looking for Willow then? Did she do something wrong…?”
Oh no, Helen might figure it out.
Out of desperation, Rachel said with a smile, “No way. Our Willow is earnest and obedient. She couldn’t possibly do anything wrong. Don’t overthink it, Aunt Helen.”
“Why else would he want to see her then?” Helen was still worried.
“Perhaps he’s here to visit her since she’s such a good employee.” Rachel stuck her tongue out, feeling guilty for saying that.
