Alexander frowned and remarked, “Isn’t the young lady from the Ruell family unusually stubborn today?” 

35 million was far beyond the item’s actual value. 

Skylar glanced back at Vera, who wore a smug smile, her inherent sense of superiority palpable. Despite the myriad thoughts racing through Skylar’s mind, the latter would always remain inferior to Vera. 

35 million was no small sum, and Vera didn’t seem to believe Alexander would continue bidding merely to indulge her. 

After the staff announced 35 million three times, Vera’s smile widened. 

Skylar averted her gaze. Alexander remarked, “I’ll inform her grandfather later.” 

Skylar nodded but said nothing. 

The auction proceeded with a few more items. The next lot was an antique painting in pristine condition, with a starting bid of three million. 

Alexander had already acquired two contentious items, but the antique painting was hotly contested between him and Vera. In the end, Vera secured it at a steep price. 

Skylar glanced thoughtfully at Vera, who looked quite pleased with herself. Vera casually smiled at Skylar, her wealth appearing as nothing more than a series of numbers. She believed that Skylar must have felt uncomfortable witnessing her extravagant purchases. 

Relying on a man to achieve goals was a fool’s errand, and Vera was determined to teach Skylar that lesson

Skylar checked her phone. Joe had texted her a few minutes ago, expressing his desire to visit Gloria that night. She quickly replied, “Sure.” 

As the auction concluded, Alexander departed in his car first. Skylar, too, made her way to her own vehicle, only to once again cross paths with Vera. 

“The last time I saw you, you were with Rowan. Now, you’re with Mr. Gardner Senior. Skylar, you never cease to amaze me,” Vera said with a cool tone, her expression laced with arrogance. 

Previously, Vera would have dismissed someone like Skylar without a second thought. Someone who would sell herself for money seemed beneath her. 

But things had changed. The fact that Skylar and Joe were involved in such financial dealings unsettled her. 

Standing beside Vera, Bianca sneered and scrutinized Skylar as if she were something vile. To Bianca, Skylar wasn’t even worth the time Vera was spending on her, but if Vera wanted to, she could continue. 

Skylar offered a faint smile. “Are you surprised that I dined with Rowan, or that I came to the auction with Mr. Gardner Senior? You always speak so vaguely. Can you ever be more clear?” 

“You!” Vera was taken aback by Skylar’s response. 

“Vera is showing you great generosity by even speaking to you. Who do you think you are? Do you really think people don’t see through you? How is a whore like you so shameless?” Bianca spat, lashing out at Skylar.
