Natalie stared down at her phone. There was a WhatsApp message from Jeremy on the phone. He simply said he could wait. 

The mere phrase “I could wait” felt like a personal accusation. It was as if Natalie were a heartless person. She was the one unwilling to face their troubles together. 

Jeremy had been schemed against and was caught in a situation beyond his control. Meanwhile, she was thinking of leaving him while he was suffering. 

Even her mother’s frequent inquiries and concerns felt like a form of supervision, as if she were being monitored to regulate her behavior. 

Soon, they arrived at the event venue. 

Natalie buried her thoughts and doubts deep inside as they exited the car. They were not revealed in the slightest. 

Skylar had just finished a call with Joe. They were scheduled to meet at the hospital later. 

They planned to stay at the hospital with Gloria for dinner. 

She had just clocked out from work. She was about to leave, but someone suddenly stopped her. 

“Skylar!” a deep voice called out. 

Skylar looked at the person blocking her path. After only two days of peace, someone else had come to confront her. This time, it 

wasn’t a familiar face.

It was Amelia. 

Amelia glared at Skylar with a face full of anger, as if Skylar were her enemy. 

She had utterly forgotten who had been taking care of her in the hospital over the years. 

“Skylar, should we call a security guard?” a colleague asked. 

Skylar shook her head. “You all go ahead. It’s fine.” 

Her colleagues said nothing more. They had worked with Skylar long enough to understand her. If she said everything was fine, it was likely true. Besides, they were at the company entrance, so nothing serious was likely to happen. 

Once her colleagues had left, Skylar turned her full attention to Amelia. Amelia had been silent earlier because Skylar seemed 

unfamiliar to her. 

From their previous encounters at the hospital until now, she had never seen Skylar like this. Today, Amelia noticed that Skylar’s demeanor had changed significantly–seeing her felt like encountering a stranger. A sharp pang of discomfort struck Amelia, and it was particularly unsettling. 

“Skylar, are you ashamed of abandoning my son and afraid to let your colleagues find out? Do you think you can enjoy wealth and luxury after leaving him? Those men are just treating you like a plaything!” Amelia suddenly snapped. 

Christopher had been acting out in the past few days. Since leaving Jipsburg City, he announced that he wasn’t coming back. 

Once he returned to Liberty County, he drank heavily every day and fell into a state of deep despair. He kept saying he regretted 

everything. He claimed that Skylar was too heartless. He also insulted Maisy, calling her bitch. 

Despite everything, he kept lamenting his regret over Skylar and drank excessively. 

Amelia couldn’t understand why Christopher was so obsessed 

with Skylar. With his good prospects, he could find any woman he wanted, but she couldn’t understand why he was so fixated on Skylar. 

“Finished? If you’re done, you can leave,” Skylar said. 

Skylar always showed respect to her elders. However, with Amelia, – politeness didn’t help. 

Amelia’s eyes widened in shock at Skylar’s coldness. “What did you say? You want me to leave? Skylar, remember how you used to try to please me? 

“Do you think that now you have a new support, you can disregard me and my son? If one day you find yourself abandoned and come to me begging, I won’t give you a chance. Do you believe that?” 

“It’s best to pick a better time for daydreaming,” Skylar said. She pushed Amelia away. 

Amelia was stunned by the push. She exclaimed, “You’ll regret this. You will definitely regret it. Do you believe it?” 

Christopher was outstanding, and many people liked him. Skylar would regret her decision.
