Skylar smiled and said, "My hair smells like stew."
"I've already prepared the bath for you. Want me to join you?" Joe lowered his head, his lips brushing near her ear, his tone teasingly intimate.
Skylar felt her ears tingle.
Even after years of marriage, Joe knew exactly how to seduce her.
"Let's bathe together," he decided for her, giving her no chance to respond.
Then he scooped her up and carried her to the bathroom.
…
Natalie lay on the bed after her bath, unable to sleep. She was clearly tired, even drowsy, but no matter what, she couldn't drift off.
She wasn't sure if it was because of jet lag or something else, but sleep simply wouldn't come.
Austin hadn't reached out to her today. Since she left, he hadn't called her once. His indifference suggested that perhaps he had lost all patience with her.
Or maybe, after years of his parents' sugar-coated persuasion and relentless efforts, they had finally planted the idea in his head that it was perfectly normal for a man to have multiple wives and mistresses.
Sometimes, Natalie couldn't understand Austin's mother. Having endured the hardship of competing with other women for her husband's attention, why would she support and perpetuate such a concept?
Did she think that since she had gone through it, other women should experience the same?
Natalie was tired of everything after all these years.
Even the strongest bond between her and Austin couldn't withstand the constant drama. Repeated incidents had drained her emotionally.
"Mr. Sullivan, you're amazing! You've been climbing this whole time without a break," she said with admiration.
The female artist had worked on a project with Charles previously, though she had a minor role and didn't have any scenes with him. She had only appeared in the background a few times.
Charles didn't seem to recognize her. His tone remained indifferent as he replied, "I'm tired now, too."
"Then let's take a break? I brought some fruit," the female artist suggested, her eyes lighting up.
Joining a variety show like this was all about creating buzz and visibility.
Although her reputation was decent, she lacked the kind of buzz-worthy topics that could elevate her career.
If she could stir up some rumors or interaction with Charles, it might help her land better roles.
