Stephen kept his cap pulled low the entire way, hoping no one would recognize him. Fortunately, it was that time of night when most people were in their dormitory getting ready for bed.
Stephen never expected Rosa to come to campus to find him.
She had really startled him.
Spotting Rosa, he scanned the surroundings carefully. Once he was sure no one familiar was around, he hurried over.
Stephen asked, "Why'd you come to my campus? You could've called me, and I would've come to meet you. It's dangerous for you to be out alone at night."
He was a bit annoyed, but his questioning tone remained gentle and soft. There was nothing anyone could criticize about the way he spoke. But deep down, he was a little unhappy.
It would be all too easy for someone to recognize him if they continued to stand at the campus gate. If anyone saw him with an older woman, he wasn't sure how he would explain it to Simona.
He had been trying to win Simona over for days now, doing his best to make her like and trust him more. The last thing he wanted was for anything to mess that up.
He definitely couldn't afford any slip-ups right now.
Rosa smiled and said, "I was shopping at the nearby mall when I suddenly remembered your campus was close by. I've never visited before, and I got the idea to come see you. Aren't you pleasantly surprised to see me?"
Stephen had been stunned when he first got her call. After all, Rosa usually kept a deliberate distance from him. She made a point of being hard to approach.
Her aloofness was calculated, leaving him feeling insecure, as though she didn't care about him as much. Rosa had her own way of handling college students like him.
As his boss, she knew how to maintain her mystique, making herself seem hard to reach. This only drew him in further, making him more attached to her.
This unexpected visit had thrown him into a mix of surprise and worry, and now he was fussing over her safety.
They had walked a little way and were nearly at the park when Stephen's phone rang. He glanced at the screen. It was Simona.
"Is that your girlfriend? Don't mind me. Go ahead and take the call. Sometimes, when young girls throw a tantrum, they can be impossible to deal with," Rosa spoke in a relaxed tone, clearly unbothered.
Stephen hesitated for a moment but then picked up. "Simona."
"Stephen, a friend just told me she saw you near the campus gate. She mentioned you were with a woman," Simona said, getting straight to the point.
Simona had just gotten off the phone with a classmate who had described the scene in vivid detail. The friend had said that although the woman didn't look like a college student, she was gorgeous and had been behaving intimately with Stephen, even linking arms with him.
Recently, Stephen's behavior had already given her reasons to be suspicious. Upon hearing this, Simona had to call to find out herself.
Stephen's heart skipped a beat at her words. Rosa, standing nearby, heard everything.
