Skylar smiled at Joe's words.
Although the amnesia Joe was experiencing left her feeling helpless, it also amused her.
"I've never been a burden to you—never in the past, not now, and definitely not in the future. I indeed wanted to find a chance to talk to you after I saw you, but if that opportunity hadn't arisen, I wouldn't have forced it.
"I know these past two days haven't given you much time to find evidence of your true identity, but I want to show you these photos—Grandma's photos." Skylar's eyes sparkled like stars as she spoke.
While Joe was momentarily distracted, Skylar unlocked her phone. On the screen were pictures of Gloria, including some with both of them together.
In those pictures, Gloria always wore a warm smile, and it was clear she was happy whenever she was with Joe.
Joe found himself captivated by the images of Gloria.
In his mind, a voice kept whispering that this was his grandmother, the one who had raised him since childhood.
Seeing Joe so captivated by the photos, Skylar began sharing stories about Gloria. As she spoke, she even delved into how the two of them had met and how their relationship had blossomed into marriage.
The orchard was incredibly serene. They stood among the fruit trees, with a gentle breeze carrying the intoxicating scent of ripe fruit.
Meanwhile, Rosa glanced at the time and realized Joe had been in the restroom for nearly half an hour. Worry began to creep in.
She felt an inexplicable sense of unease. Earlier, she had restrained herself from going to look for him, worried that others might tease her for being anxious about Joe. However, half an hour had passed, and he still hadn't returned.
Determined, she set off in the direction Joe had gone earlier. She questioned a few staff members along the way, but none had seen him. After waiting by the restroom and confirming he was no longer inside, unease began to creep in.
A sinking feeling gripped her heart. Her face paled. She couldn't resist her urge to rush toward the orchard. Yet, she couldn't run because there were too many people around.
She couldn't lose her composure and let anyone mock her. Yet, her heart raced with anxiety. Despite all her precautions, she had failed to anticipate the scheming tricks of this femme fatale.
The orchard was secluded. If one didn't look closely, one wouldn't see anyone there.
They were so close together that she wondered if they had already kissed. Perhaps they had done something even more intimate.
As she thought about how she and Joe had never shared such closeness, jealousy and anger surged within her.
She was determined to ruin this woman's reputation. Everyone needed to know that Rosa's man was not so easily claimed.
