My Father's Best Friend novel Chapter 44

"Why did you talk with Holden, by the way?" Andrea asked, popping a fry onto her mouth.

Lance watched her and felt a stirring sensation on his groin, Dammit!

"Something about business," he lied.

The truth is that he talked to Holden about Andrea, and how for just one week in his company, she was already so stressed out and tired all the time.

"Holden, can't you give her another job?" Lance asked as he tried to conceal his irritation at the man sitting in front of him.

"Actually, I can. I'm already processing her papers," Holden answered.

Lance's eyes narrowed, "As what?"

Holden locked eyes with Lance, "As my secretary, since I figured she is compelled and driven enough for the job,"

"How could you do that? She had only been on this company for a week!" Lance argued.

Holden shrugged, "I find her rather fitting for the job and she is the only one I can trust in this company to be my secretary," he smiled, arrogantly.

"Lance," Andrea snapped her fingers, dragging Lance out of his thoughts.

"Have you heard what I just said?" she asked.

Lance creased his brows, what did she say?

"I'm sorry," he paused as he shook his head, "I missed it, can you say it again?" he continued.

Andrea smirked, "I said I was promoted," she beamed at him.

"Wow, congratulations," he said in the sincerest way he can.

She smiled, "Thank you."

Lance smiled back, what can he do? Andrea's smile iss contagious.

Margaret nodded, shifting her gaze to the cup of coffee in front of her.

"Why did you leave and not even let us do a farewell party?" Andrea asked, remembering Diane's sullen face as she announced no party for Margaret.

"I'm not into parties," Margaret said.

Andrea furrowed, "A happy person like you, not into parties?" she asked, rhetorically.

Margaret looked at her with irritation she could not understand, "Andrea, please, leave me alone," she said.

"I cannot understand, Margaret," Andrea said, not understanding the irritation in Margaret's eyes.

Margaret sighed, gathered her bag and left, leaving Andrea looking back at her. Shocked.

"Who was that?" Lance asked, coming up beside her.

"The secretary before me," she answered as she removed her gaze from the retreating back of Margaret.
