My Father's Best Friend novel Chapter 41

Andrea closed her mouth, thankful that it was all over.

It's finished.

She'd finish everything and presented it. She looked around the board members as they all applauded her. She felt her lips tug into a smile.

"That's fantastic, Ms. Owen," Holden smiled and winked at her.

She felt weird about the winked, but she returned the smile, by smiling wider.

I guess the promotion is now mine, she thought proudly, as she grinned at the people surrounding the table.

"Oh god, why does she have to be so awesome!" Diane gushed.

"She is here," Andrea raised her hand a bit, letting Diane know her existence in their table.

"Why'd you have to be promoted easily, add to that you'll be hot boss's secretary!" Rosa said before munching her sandwich.

Andrea looked at Rosa, her mouth hanging open, "Hot boss? I expect that coming from Diane but from you?" she said, mock disgust.

Rosa laughed as Diane rolled her eyes.

"Anyways, how are you two doing?" Diane said, removing the attention from her.

Andrea bit her burger and furrowed, "Who?"

"You and Hot boss Holden," Rosa answered, suggestively.

Andrea choked but managed to wash down the burger stuck on her esophagus.

She looked at the expectant women who didn't even flinch at the sight of her choking. She rolled her eyes, "There's nothing between us, what makes you think so?" she asked the two.

Both narrowed their eyes, "Andrea, don't lie to us!" Diane whined.

Andrea laughed, "Am not lying. He's not the guy," she confirmed.

"Then who?" both said.

As if on cue, her phone rang, and she saw Victoria's name flash on the screen.

"Excuse me," she said, standing up from her seat and made her way to the restrooms, not wanting the two to overhear what the conversation will be.

"V, why?" she asked.

"Well, hello to you, too," Victoria said.

"Sorry, hi. I was eating," Andrea explained.

"Ah, ok. I'm just informing you that there will be a black-tie engagement party on Friday, and I know you know who just got engaged. And as much as I want to celebrate it with plastic cups filled with beer and party music, Jerry's family, and mine, insisted we do a formal one, meaning many old people," Victoria said. Not that she does not like parents, Victoria is a party animal, like Andrea.

"So, I'm invited?" Andrea asked.

"No, retard. You're not," Victoria said sarcastically and Andrea got the feeling she rolled her eyes, "Of course you are. And well, your parents. Bring Lance as date, too," she ordered.

"Whoa! Slow down there. I don't even know if Lance will be home by that time," Andrea said.

"Well, figure something out, unless you want to get suck into the life of the oldies," Victoria warned and both of them laughed.

"Okay, I'll work something out," Andrea smiled.

"Awesomeness, I got to go. See ya Friday?" Victoria asked.

"Yup," Andrea said, and Victoria hung up.

She remained there, hearing the static from the phone. She felt bad. Normally, Victoria knows a lot about her relationships but now, she does not even know Lance and her kissed.

"Ugh," she groaned and stomped back to her friends to enjoy her lunch. I wish Lance will be back by Friday.

The rest of the day was good and though Andrea was glad her colleagues kept on congratulating her, she still felt something missing. She still felt Lance's absence.

Her phone shrilled, making her flinch a bit as she was gathering stuffs up, ready to leave.

"Andrea Owen," she said.

"Key," he asked, and Andrea rummaged her tote bag and gave him the key.

The drive to Andrea's condominium was silent. Andrea wanted to start a conversation but whenever she let her eyes wander over to Lance, all she wanted to do was kiss him.

Gosh! What's wrong with you?

They pulled up on Andrea's parking space and Andrea waited for Lance to go around for him to open her door.

The thickness of the tension in the air heightened as they took a step closer to Andrea's condo and after closing her condominium's door, Andrea felt out of breath.

"Andrea," Lance murmured from behind her.

She let her bags fall to her couch and turned to Lance, but all the control she thought she mustered, were ripped away as she gazed into Lance's eyes, a foot away from her.

Her two feet both took a step closer to Lance and as she looked into his eyes, she felt the heat radiating from his eyes and she can't do anything but feel overwhelmed by it. In a good way.

She felt Lance's arms encircle her waist and she let her hands encircle his neck.

"I missed you," Lance said, his breath wafting to Andrea's face, giving her a very wonderful tingling feeling.

"I missed you, too," she said as she let her eyes fall shyly to the space between their chests.

The hell, Andrea? What's with you! she thought to herself as Lance lifted her chin with a finger.

"How are you?" asked Lance.

She smiled and she curiously watched Lance gulp, "Wonderful," Just wonderful.

She watched Lance close his eyes, "Why do you have to be so irresistible?" he mused, and Andrea smiled.

Lance opened his eyes again and wet his lips, "You don't know how much I want to kiss those lips of yours," he said, eyes connected with her lips.

"I could guess it is how much I want to kiss those lips of yours," she said.

Before she could throw in a seductive smile with her words, Lance's lips crashed into hers in a fierce kiss, and she accepted it gratefully.
